Locum Consultant - Gynae Oncology Leeds

Locum Consultant in the department of Gynae Oncology Surgery. This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Locum Consultant Gynae Oncologist. This post will be available from ASAP for a period of 6 months. This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Gynae Oncology team. The post-holder will provide clinical, theatre and on-call activities. There will be opportunities to contribute to MDT and Departmental meetings. The post will be based at St James' University Hospital.

The successful applicant should hold accreditation in Gynae Oncology in the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. Applicants should have established skills in Gynae Oncology. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part-time and those wishing to job share.

Job Summary: Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Surgeon to join the Gynaecological Oncology Surgical Department for a fixed-term period of 6 months. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a highly regarded, specialist multidisciplinary team delivering complex gynaecological oncology surgery to patients across Leeds and the wider region. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care, support elective and emergency surgical pathways, and work collaboratively with colleagues across oncology, radiology, pathology, anaesthetics, specialist nursing and wider cancer services.

Why you should join our Team: The Department of Gynaecological Oncology within the Leeds Cancer Centre is centralised on the St James's Hospital site within the flagship Bexley Wing, a purpose-built facility which opened in late 2007. It is the 3rd largest cancer centre in the UK and encompasses various specialist cancer services.

This is a locum post to cover a leave of absence, to maintain the existing complement of 6 Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeons, ensuring the Trust continues to manage all patients requiring treatment for gynaecological malignancy within national cancer waiting time targets. Following centralisation, the Gynaecological Oncology Surgeons established outreach services across the Yorkshire region.

The surgical service is based on Ward J98, a dedicated 14-bed gynaecological oncology facility in Bexley Wing. There is a state-of-the-art theatre suite that includes high-definition laparoscopic equipment and support from a dedicated anaesthetic and theatre team. There is also an established robotic programme utilising the Da Vinci system.

What you will bring to the role: The appointee will be expected to hold the MRCOG or equivalent, have completed higher specialist training in gynaecological oncology or equivalent and have the required surgical skills to fulfil the role. The appointee must be able to work as part of a team, have good communication skills and form good working relationships with colleagues, non-medical staff and patients. They should be well organised and skilled in good time management.

Consultants are expected to routinely engage in relevant activities in their specialty that are focused on quality improvement. This participation should be reflected at annual appraisal and job planning and will be discussed as part of clinical governance programmes and meetings. The Trust is a Teaching Hospital and therefore considers the active participation of consultant and other medical staff in teaching and training to be part of core activities.
