Medical Director

Location: Leeds, UK. This is a hybrid position and would require the successful candidate to work from our Leeds facility 2-3 days a week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Medical Affairs & Scientific Leadership
  • Develop and lead the global medical affairs strategy aligned to business and R&D objectives.
  • Provide medical leadership across pipeline and marketed products.
  • Support target product profiles, clinical development plans, and lifecycle management activities.
  • Ensure all medical affairs activities remain compliant, ethical, and evidence-based.
  • Healthcare Professional & KOL Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders, investigators, and clinical experts.
  • Lead scientific exchange activities, including advisory boards, investigator meetings, and congress engagement.
  • Gather and translate clinical insights into development and commercial strategies.
  • Support publication planning and scientific communication activities.
  • Medical Review & Compliance
  • Act as the final medical signatory for promotional and non-promotional materials.
  • Ensure all communications comply with ABPI Code of Practice, MHRA requirements, and all applicable regulations.
  • Provide medical review and approval of claims, references, and scientific content to ensure communications are compliant, non-misleading, and aligned with the product licence and approved prescribing information.
  • Partner with Commercial, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and Compliance teams to deliver accurate, balanced, and compliant scientific communications.
  • Patient Advocacy & Engagement
  • Develop meaningful partnerships with patient organisations and advocacy groups.
  • Ensure patient perspectives are integrated into development strategies and benefit-risk assessments.
  • Support patient-focused programmes, educational initiatives, and disease awareness activities.
  • Pharmacovigilance & Patient Safety
  • Provide executive leadership for pharmacovigilance and safety governance activities.
  • Oversee compliance with global pharmacovigilance regulations and requirements.
  • Review safety data, risk management plans, and benefit-risk evaluations.
  • Ensure safety insights inform product development, labelling, and risk minimisation activities.
  • Leadership & Governance
  • Participate in key governance committees and development review boards.
  • Collaborate across Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, and Commercial functions.
  • Support due diligence, licensing opportunities, and strategic partnerships.
  • Mentor and develop medical affairs and pharmacovigilance teams to foster scientific excellence and compliance.

About you

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Medical Degree (MD) required.
  • Specialist medical training or Ph D highly desirable.
  • Significant experience within Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, or related pharmaceutical functions.
  • Proven success leading medical strategy for pipeline and/or marketed products.
  • Strong experience with pharmacovigilance and safety governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated capability engaging healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders at a regional or global level.
  • Experience incorporating patient insights into product development and lifecycle management activities.
