Haematology Consultant Specialising in Lymphoma Haverfordwest

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist with an interest in lymphoma and General Haematology to join the team at Withybush General Hospital. We are looking for a highly committed and motivated individual to join our Haematology team as we start to introduce subspecialisation into the health board. Our dedicated and forward-looking team of 7 consultants provide a comprehensive haematology service in the four hospitals in an area of outstanding beauty.

This post will introduce a Lymphoma subspecialty to our team as part of a redesign of haematology services across the Health Board and will continue to develop as part of the wider transformation process. Support for the post includes Associate Specialists, Specialty Doctors, Clinical Fellows as well as foundation trainees. The team also includes Haematology CNS team and Specialist pharmacists.

Main duties of the job:

• The appointee is required to be GMC registered on the specialist register or be expected to obtain CCT within 6 months.
• The appointee will contribute to all aspects of the general haematology and haemo-oncology work including participation in departmental meetings and on-call rota.
• 10 sessions with 20% non-clinical work (SPA) per week within job plan.
• Clinics in other hospital sites will be required (virtual clinics are an option).
• The appointee must be someone who can help develop our rural service to ensure excellent patient care.

Job responsibilities:

• The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience in the management of lymphoma and general haematology.
• The successful candidate will develop this subspecialty across the health board and work alongside the generalist consultants.
• The appointee will participate in an attending and on-call rota for the Haverfordwest site.
• The appointee will be expected to participate in 3-4 clinics per week within lymphoma and general haematology.
• There is a weekly health board wide MDT and opportunities to join other MDTs from across Wales.

Person Specification:

Qualifications and Knowledge:

• Essential: Full registration and a licence to practice with the General Medical Council. On the GMC specialist register or will have CCT due within six months of interview date. Valid certified advanced life support.
• Desirable: Additional higher qualification(s).

Clinical Experience:

• Essential: Broad based experience within the specialty area. Able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post. Experience of leading a team.
• Desirable: Previous experience working in the UK or NHS.

Clinical Governance:

• Essential: Understanding of the role of Clinical Governance. Participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice.
• Desirable: Knowledge of risk management.

Teaching:

• Essential: Ability to critically assess learning requirements for self and others. Evidence of organising programmes and teaching all staff groups.
• Desirable: Teaching qualification.

Research and Scholarship:

• Essential: Demonstrates knowledge of current research and best practice in the specialty area.
• Desirable: Active participation in research.

Safeguarding:

• Essential: Demonstrates knowledge of safeguarding requirements and takes appropriate responsibility.

Other:

• Desirable: Welsh speaker (Level 1).
