General Practitioner Out of Hours/Urgent Primary Care Haverforwest in Haverfordwest

Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking for a committed and capable General Practitioner to join our Out of Hours / Urgent Primary Care Service. This is a senior clinical role, where you will lead by example, offer supervision, training and support to colleagues, and help maintain a safe, effective and collaborative working environment. You will be part of a growing team focused on developing a robust, responsive and forward-thinking urgent care service for the population of West Wales.

Main duties of the job:

• You will be responsible for assessing and managing patients with urgent and complex needs, either virtually or face-to-face, ensuring care is delivered safely and effectively.
• Strong clinical judgement and clear communication are essential, alongside a commitment to evidence-based practice, audit and safeguarding.
• The role encompasses more than delivering high-quality patient care. It requires confident clinical leadership, sound decision-making, and the ability to support and guide colleagues in real time.
• As the senior clinician on shift, you will be instrumental in maintaining clinical standards, fostering teamwork, and ensuring the service runs safely and effectively.
• You will play a key role in shaping the future of the service through active involvement in teaching, mentoring and supporting the professional development of a multidisciplinary team.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties. We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services. We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Person Specification:

Qualifications and Knowledge

• Essential: Entry on the GMC GP Register, Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council, MRCGP Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice / Certificate Confirming Eligibility for General Practice Registration (CEGPR), or equivalent, Included on a Medical Performers List or eligible, Evidence of continuous professional development, Conducting sessions in a General Practice Setting.
• Desirable: Additional Higher qualification(s).

Clinical Experience

• Essential: Broad based experience within the specialty area, Able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post, Experience of leading a team.
• Desirable: Previous experience working in the UK or NHS including Out of Hours/Urgent Primary Care.

Clinical Governance

• Essential: Understanding of the role of Clinical Governance, Participation in clinical audit (or quality improvement project) and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice, Knowledge of annual job planning/appraisal review process.
• Desirable: Knowledge of risk management.

Teaching

• Essential: Ability to critically assess learning requirements for self and others, Evidence of organising programmes and teaching all staff groups, Willingness to teach all grades of professional multidisciplinary staff.
• Desirable: Teaching qualification.

Research and Scholarship
