Lead Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse Dudley

We are looking for an enthusiastic qualified nurse to take up the role of Band 7 Lead Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse for 30 hours per week permanently within our motivated and friendly team. At the Dudley Group, we strive to provide excellent care for our caseload of approximately 160 children and young people with diabetes, providing a high quality, evidence-based, patient centred service.

You will have excellent communication skills allowing you to deliver an expert service and ensure that children/young people and their families remain at the centre of what we do. Main duties of the job:

• To provide specialist advice, support and care to the children, young people and their families with diabetes at the Dudley Group Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, within hospital, home and community settings.
• To enable children and young people with diabetes to reach their optimum level of health, independence, social and emotional well-being, through the provision of ongoing clinical management, education and support tailored to individual need.
• To develop and maintain programmes of education for children/young people with diabetes and their families.
• To act as the clinical expert and professional resource to children/young people and families, and the multi-professional team around them - both within and external to the Trust.
• To liaise effectively with members of the multi-professional team, within and external to the trust, to advocate for the needs of the child and ensure best outcomes for them.

Person Specification:

Qualifications and Education:

• Essential: RSCN/RNC, Evidence of undertaking a recognised course of study in teaching and assessing, Educated to diploma level or can demonstrate experience of operating at this level, Evidence of professional development and regular study since qualification, Evidence of completion of (or working towards) Management of Childhood Diabetes.
• Desirable: Educated to 1st degree level of study at degree level.

Communication Skills:

• Essential: Excellent written/verbal skills, Able to communicate using different resources e.g. email, Able to communicate difficult and distressing information to parents/carers, Able to work flexibly e.g. support other departments, Able to meet the physical requirements of the role.

Knowledge and Training:

• Essential: Effective communication skills, verbal and written, Ability to demonstrate negotiating and influencing skills, Effective leadership skills and an understanding of leadership theory and practice, Evidence of having developed team working skills and implemented teamwork practices, Knowledge of effective people management practices, Knowledge of clinical audit and effectiveness systems.
• Desirable: Knowledge of clinical audit and effectiveness systems, Computer Literate.

Experience:

• Essential: Minimum 3 years recent paediatric experience since qualification, Experience of close liaison with members of multidisciplinary team.
• Desirable: Experience of service planning and managing change, Experience of managing a budget.
