CT Training Lead Band 7 Radiographer Croydon

Our friendly Radiology department is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 CT Training Lead to join the radiographic team at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be expected to rotate through all aspects of the Imaging department at Croydon and will, at times, be expected to rotate through the Imaging department at Purley Memorial Hospital and our new community diagnostic centre in New Addington.

Croydon University Hospital is a large urban DGH situated in South London, serving the needs of a diverse population of 360,000. Croydon has easy access to both central London and the south coast. It also offers a huge range of social, leisure and shopping venues, with excellent transport links to both Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

The Radiology Department is well equipped with up-to-date facilities. CUH department currently has two new ED and two new General X-ray rooms, one interventional suite, one Cardiac Catheter Suite, two CT scanners and one new Fluoroscopy suite. The CT department is currently in an equipment renewal process and is installing our new Siemens Pulse scanner at Croydon and has a goTOP scanner at our CDC. The CT department is moving towards a homogenous Siemens CT scanners in the near future. The successful candidate will rotate through all aspects of the Imaging department and will be expected to support the Radiology department in a senior position.

Main duties of the job:

• To help lead the delivery of a safe radiology service for all users through sound specialist knowledge, participation in research and audit activity, user involvement and a commitment to the professional development of self and others.
• To assume day-to-day organisation of the CT training radiographers and resources in the area they are working to ensure effective utilisation of available resources.
• To ensure patient needs/expectations are met or exceeded and all patients are seen within Trust and National targets.
• To help lead the CT scanning workload ensuring protocols and training are in place for all staff.
• The post holder will provide leadership and direct line management to rotational Radiographers, in collaboration with the Lead Superintendents with support from the Radiology manager.
• To provide line management support including appraisals in line with the department's needs.
• To assist with the recruitment and retention of rotational staff within the department.
• To maintain a sensitive and courteous approach to all patients.
• To develop and improve professional expertise via continuous professional development.
• To rotate throughout the different departments at CUH, Purley and New Addington sites providing expert knowledge and leadership in each area they work.
• To actively participate in on-call and out of hours shifts to support the provision of a high-class service.

Job responsibilities:

• To be responsible for the organisation of workload and supervision and day-to-day operational running of all radiographic staff within the area that they are working.
• To be responsible for all radiological equipment within the area that they are working.
• To ensure that the department delivers a high quality patient experience.
• To ensure the safety of all patients, staff and visitors to the department.
• To liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that room utilisation is maximised and to prioritise patients to ensure optimum efficiency and service quality.
• To provide timely professional support to colleagues, radiographic, radiological, nursing and all other staff groups.
• To ensure that the images produced are of the highest possible quality as befits a department and to lead by example.
• To work with the Radiation Protection Supervisors/Modality Leads/Lead Radiographers for Clinical Governance and Quality, within the area that they are working, ensuring compliance under IRMER and IRR.
• To support the Lead Radiographers and deputise for them when required.
• To ensure all data inputs are recorded accurately in order to maintain integrity of data for both patients and service.
• To ensure that a high personal level of professional practice is maintained and extended through participation in Professional Development.
• To ensure radiation doses to both staff and patients are kept to a minimum whilst providing diagnostic images.
• To support the Medical Physics team to deliver local Dose Reference Levels for commonly used examinations and procedures.
• To play an integral role in departmental and division activities such as Health and Safety, Audit, Research, Clinical Governance and investigation of adverse incidents and complaints.
• To lead and manage a range of staff and deliver a service in a specialised clinical environment, including complex examinations with a wide variety of patient presentations across a range of modalities.
• To work closely with the Lead Radiographers, Superintendents, other colleagues, Radiologists and nurses to ensure provision of an efficient and responsive radiographic services across the department.

Qualifications:

• Essential: BSc Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.

Experience:

• Essential: Experience of working at a Senior level in a busy NHS department.

Personal statement:

• Essential: Excellent written and communication skills evident in personal statement.

CPD:

• Essential: Evidence of CPD evidence of training Radiographers.
• Desirable: Formal training programs in CT cardiac scanning.
