Job summaryApplications are invited for Consultants in ENT (Head and Neck, Otology, Paediatric and General ENT) to join the vibrant Ears, Nose and Throat team at Croydon University.

A hub and spoke network for ENT operates within South West London centred on St. George's Hospital covering a population of 1.7million. The aim is to provide a collaborative and integrated service for South West Thames and surrounding counties. All in-patient operating has been centralised on the St. George's Hospital site. The other linked hospital units within the group include Croydon University Hospital NHS Trust, Kingston Hospital Foundation Trust, and Epsom and St Helier Hospitals NHS Trust. Outpatient clinics and day surgery continue on these sites.

Main duties of the jobThe post will be based at Croydon Health Services and St George's Healthcare NHS Trust and other work locations including off site working may be agreed in your Job Plan where appropriate. The proposed Job Plan is attached. There will be an average of 10 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care, with the remainder being allocated for Supporting Professional and/or other Activities.

As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following:-

This is a full-time post consisting of 10 programmed activities. The remit of the post-holder will be to work within the multi- disciplinary team providing and further developing care of ENT/Head and Neck, and to provide and develop services to Croydon Health Services and St George's patients. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

Qualifications and Registration

Essential

  • Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent Inclusion in the specialist register for ENT
  • ENT or equivalent, or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview
  • Name on Specialist Register on date of taking appointment
  • Licence to practice with the GMC
  • Fellowship in Head & Neck Surgery

Desirable

  • Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
  • Experience of Head and Neck Robotic surgery

Administration

Essential

  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of services in a busy teaching hospital

Desirable

  • Experience in the development of clinical guidelines

Training and Experience

Essential

  • Wide experience in Head & Neck surgery

Management and Leadership

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to organise and manage work
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance

Desirable

  • Management course and/or qualification
