As Lead Midwife, you will work closely with the Intrapartum Matron and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality care across the Labour Ward, Maternity Triage, and Obstetric Theatre.

The borough has one of the youngest populations in London and continues to grow. Croydon Health Services cares for local people at Croydon University Hospital, Purley Memorial Hospital and in clinics and people's homes all across the borough. Croydon University Hospital (CUH) maternity delivers 3300 babies every year from women of a wide and diverse background. CUH has been rated as 'Good' by the CQC and we are looking for strong, clinically credible leaders to help us in our journey to a CQC rating of 'Outstanding'.

Main duties of the job

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

• NMC Registered Midwife
• BSc in Midwifery
• Evidence of professional development
• Assessor/mentorship course or equivalent ALSO/NALS/MOET course

Desirable

• Masters in Midwifery, or evidence of working towards
• Professional Midwifery Advocate
• Managerial/Leadership qualifications and / or experience

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Essential

• Awareness and understanding of current national and local midwifery issues.
• Demonstrate a desire to improve standards
• Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management
• Understand systems of team approach in midwifery
• Understanding of change management process.

EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Extensive post registration clinical experience
• Experience of working in both hospital and community settings
• Experience of line management duties

Desirable

• Experience of implementing change management projects
• Management of people
• Experience of coordinating a labour ward

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Essential

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Teaching skills
• Ability to be objective when assessing staffAbility to give and receive feedback

Desirable

• Examination and assessment of the newborn
• Experienced in managing groups
• HDU trained
