Job summary

Applications are invited for a new Specialist grade post, based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. The successful candidate will be a clinical expert in Care of the Elderly/Frailty and be expected to deliver appropriate subspecialty care for the elderly population of Mid Cheshire.

The post holder will be a senior non-Consultant member of the Care of the Elderly and Frailty Service. Working autonomously, this Specialist grade doctor will take responsibility for the patients under their care and be able to manage a full range of presentations within the Service.

The post is offered on a full time, or job share basis, the job plan being intended for a full time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake senior clinical responsibilities across CofE & Frailty services, demonstrating development of competencies aligned to Specialist-level practice employing the necessary clinical decision skills to formulate appropriate management plans for the patients under their care.

Although working autonomously, the post holder will have the necessary understanding of their own limits and seek help when required. They will be responsible for adhering to the generic capabilities' framework outlined nationally for the Specialist grade.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and a Licence to Practice Primary Medical Degree
  • MBBS or equivalent

Desirable

  • Additional degrees (MD/PHD)
  • Additional higher degrees relevant to this post

Experience

Essential

  • Broad clinical training and experience in the comprehensive management of elderly patients.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients.
  • Broad based general professional training in general medicine
  • Computer literate
