Come and join our dynamic Adult and Older Adult Community Mental Health Team! We are looking for dedicated individuals who are committed to transforming community mental health services for our aging population. You will be working alongside a well-established MDT including social workers, mental health nurses, psychologists, pharmacists and many other AHPs who will support you in delivering excellent holistic care.

The post holder will be expected to work within the multidisciplinary team, managing a defined caseload of service users providing core occupational therapy interventions that enable individuals to work towards recovery, a valued lifestyle and aim for optimum level of functional ability. Crewe is well known for its extensive transportation links and thriving live music scene as well as a range of amenities that make it an up-and-coming town to work in. Crewe is undergoing extensive redevelopment and investment which goes further to improve the facilities available to the public. The post is also aligned to a thriving network of Care Community groups that support each other to tackle health inequalities, pool collective knowledge and services whilst also streamlining access to our respective areas.

Main duties of the job:

  • The postholders will be expected to coordinate the OT service on their designated ward, and carry a clinical caseload.
  • They will be responsible for supervising Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Technical instructors, and work alongside the Lead Occupational Therapist and other Specialist OTs in delivering service developments.
  • These are ideal posts for adaptable, creative practitioners who are looking for opportunities to develop clinical leadership skills and further their specialism within mental health.
  • The postholders will be skilled and experienced mental health practitioners who can take on complex cases, and can show evidence of understanding Community Mental Health Team.
  • This is a busy team environment where no two days are the same requiring a high level of problem solving and organisation.
  • The postholder will be able to supervise others in applying the 6Cs within acute care, understand governance issues and have knowledge of current evidence-based practice.

Qualifications:

Essential: Diploma/BSc in Occupational Therapy, State Registration with Health and Care Professions Council.

Desirable: Membership of professional body.

Knowledge & Expertise:

Essential: Some knowledge of current best practice in OT, Knowledge of assessment tools and outcome measures, Ability to work autonomously with individuals and groups, Skills in handling and moving, Ability to support Occupational Therapy students and support staff, Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice, Understanding of team dynamics, Basic knowledge of health legislation and current practice, including CPA and risk assessment and management, Effective written and oral communication skills, Computer literacy, Basic knowledge of the principles of clinical governance.

Desirable: Training and presentation skills, Has practically applied evidence-based practice, Evidence of research and clinical audit skills.

Experience:

Essential: Application of the occupational therapy process, Use of functional assessment and activity analysis, Documented evidence of continuing Professional Development, Experience working in mental health or supporting vulnerable adults.
