Job summary

We are looking for a Specialist Healthcare Science Practitioner or Clinical Scientist in Audiology to join our friendly Audiology team

This is an exciting opportunity to join a service that provides audiology care for children and adults, and the role offers a paediatric focus to clinical practice with an opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas. We're also happy to support applications for STP equivalence via the Academy of Healthcare Science.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Healthcare Science Practitioner or Clinical Scientist, you'll be developing and utilising specialist skills and knowledge within Paediatric Audiology. The post-holder will have demonstrable knowledge and experience within Paediatric audiology, and be keen to develop this further, supported by clinical supervision and CPD activities.

The role will include clinical supervision responsibilities and will offer opportunities to develop and lead on innovative projects within the team. The successful candidate will also be supported to develop their leadership skills through further training and professional development.

To apply, you should have NHS experience and a BSc-level qualification (or equivalent) in Audiology. You must also have HCPC or AHCS registration to be considered for this role.

Job responsibilities

Individual Management Plan (IMP) Development

• The development of the IMP should include a range of investigations, procedures or processes in consultation with patients and relevant others, based on individual patient needs and wishes and accepted good practice.
• The IMP should be monitored and progress reported, reviewing the need for further intervention as appropriate.
• Assists in the delivery of IMPs for adults and children within a specialist Audiology service e.g. paediatrics, balance, tinnitus

Diagnostic Assessments

• A range of clinical investigations, procedures or processes can be performed to deliver patient care according to the agreed IMP. These investigations, procedures or processes must also be interpreted and reported to the patient and others involved in their care.
• The following may be undertaken: diagnostic tympanometry; diagnostic reflexes; reflex decay; diagnostic OAEs; speech audiometry; advanced speech testing.
• In addition, the Specialist Healthcare Science Practitioner (Audiology) participates in the delivery of a specialist service within Audiology, for example, paediatric Audiology; tinnitus assessment; complex diagnostic testing, under remote supervis

Paediatric role will require working at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire and City of Coventry Health Centre.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• BSc Audiology or equivalent (e.g., GDip Audiology / PGDip / BAAT in Audiology with clinical training programme)
• Professional registration with relevant UK body (HCPC or RCCP) (or in process with application if newly qualified)
• Evidence of relevant and regular CPD

Desirable

• Post graduate training/certificate in specialist modality (e.g., MSc, MSc modules, HTS modules)
• Attendance at a recognised Paediatric Rehabilitation or Assessment Course

Experience

Essential

• Demonstrable post-graduate experience in audiology
• Experience in the assessment and management of hearing loss in paediatrics
• Assessing and managing hearing loss in complex adult patients

Desirable

• Training and supervision experience
• Electrophysiological testing experience (adult or paediatric)

Knowledge

Essential

• Evidence of reflective practice and self-development
• Knowledge of IQIPS standards and quality management within Audiology

Desirable

• Involvement in a UKAS assessment visit of an Audiology service

Skills

Essential

• Experience of Audiology Electronic Patient record (EPR) e.g., Auditbase
• Good computer skills (experience of windows-based applications)
• Ability to adapt communication style for hearing impaired individuals
• Able to complete tasks within pre-defined time limits.
• Good organisational skills and able to work using own initiative.
• Well-motivated and committed to delivering good quality services
