Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking team of consultant paediatricians within Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. The post holder will provide consultant leadership for children and young people with diabetes and endocrine disorders in South Buckinghamshire, contributing to the Trust's successful paediatric diabetes service and maintaining national quality standards. In addition, they will undertake general paediatric and neonatal responsibilities, participate in the consultant on-call rota, and support the delivery of high-quality acute paediatric care across both hospital sites.
This is a full time (10 PA) substantive post with cross site working delivering outpatient clinics at Wycombe Hospital, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Amersham Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join a team of consultants and undertake inpatient and outpatient work in Neonates and General Paediatrics including inpatients and children admitted to the observation ward. These clinical areas have day on call (attending weeks). On call activities are on a pro-rata basis. In addition to the general paediatrics this post holder will also have specialist clinics in diabetes to ensure we continue to meet the standards to achieve the best practice tariff.

Job responsibilities
There will be 3 clinics every week: 1 general and 2 diabetes. These will be in Stoke, Wycombe or Amersham Hospital to cover the needs of the patients in the South of the county. Dr Dutta covers the Diabetes and Endocrine service for patients in the North of the county.
The post holder will be Paediatrician of the week (POW) and Neonatologist of the week (NOW) totalling 7 on calls a year. There will also be attending weeks for the Childrens Observation Unit (COU) and the number of these will be 1-2 weeks / year. During these days s/he will have no other clinical commitments.
The post holder will have resident duties covering Twilight shifts from 16:00-22:00 within the Childrens Emergency Department. This will be a weekend twilight shift to cover the Friday to Sunday evenings for 4 weekends a year to ensure that college standards for facing the future are fully met.

- MB, ChB or equivalent
- Full registration with the General Medical Council.
- MRCPCH, or equivalent

- Higher postgraduate degree
Experience/ Training
Essential
- Extensive knowledge of neonatal and general paediatrics.
- Minimum of 1 year Endocrine and Diabetes experience within training.
- Have clinical experience of assessing and examining children and young people as appropriate to the role to include safeguarding.
Desirable
- Diabetes SPIN module
Clinical and Technical Skills
Essential
- Ability to carry out common neonatal and general paediatric procedures
- Ability to diagnose and manage wide variety of illness in children
Desirable
- Any other knowledge base to enhance service - insulin pump training etc
