We are looking for a Respiratory Consultant to join our team in delivering high-quality respiratory medical services at University Hospitals of Tees.
The successful candidate will have a subspecialist focus on TB, COPD and Pleural diseases.
The successful applicant will join the enthusiastic and well-established respiratory team to provide clinical sessions within the Department of Respiratory Medicine.
The primary base will be the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
Main duties of the job
The post is outpatient and inpatient respiratory based. The post holder will contribute to Respiratory evening and weekend on-call commitments (1:7 weekends depending on the number of consultants) as part of the overall job plan.
This post is based predominantly at the James Cook University Hospital with the expectation to provide some cross site cover at the University Hospital North Tees, Stockton. Office accommodation and secretarial support will be provided, as will computer/internet access.
The full detail of the job plan will be negotiated and agreed between the successful applicant and the Clinical Director.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
- Full registration with GMC. Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of expected date of CCT.
Desirable
- Training in appraisal techniques.
Clinical Specialty Skills Essential
- Completion of a recognised training programme in respiratory and general medicine.
- Sound diagnostic and therapeutic skills, in-particular competent in fibre-optic bronchoscopy and lung function testing
- Competent in the management of respiratory and general medical conditions experience in managing rapid access lung cancer clinics in the UK and experience of lung MDT membership
- Experience in full range of bronchoscopy procedures and EBUS;
- Experience in managing patients with complex pleural effusion, including performing talc pleurodesis and insertion/removal of the IPC.
Desirable
- Attendance at and participation in international meetings
- Multidisciplinary approach to lung cancer management.
- Experience in performing endobronchial interventions, such as argon plasma coagulation, electrocautery snaring and stent insertion.
Skills, knowledge and aptitude Essential
- Evidence of working in a multi- disciplinary team.
- Ability to organise and prioritise complex demands.
- Evidence of teaching and training skills for resident doctors.
- Effective communication skills
