Job Summary

The post will be part of the Surgical Junior Doctor tier at University Hospital Llandough. The successful applicant will share on‑call duties and gain exposure to a wide range of surgical conditions including orthopaedics, breast, ENT, maxillofacial, general surgery, urology and gynaecology, while being fully supported by an appropriate junior and senior team. The post also provides access to clinical supervision and internal educational and training opportunities and involves working across general surgical ward areas to support safe delivery of care to the wards and acute, unselected surgical on‑call rota.

Responsibilities

The role involves shared on‑call duties with exposure to a variety of surgical specialties, supporting ward activities, participating in surgical wards, and pursuing continuing education and training. Gaining experience across general surgical ward areas and learning to support safe care delivery form the core service purpose of the position.

  • Qualifications
    • MBBS or equivalent
    • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Desirable Qualifications
    • Intercalated degree
    • MSc or PhD
    • Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions, etc.)
    • MRCS (UK) Part 1
  • Experience
    • Clinical experience
    • Evidence of participation in research and clinical governance
  • Desirable Experience
    • Evidence of interest in day and short stay surgery
  • Skills
    • Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
    • Effective and demonstrable communication skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
