Job summary
The post holder will work within podiatric surgery service provision to manage the safe day case treatment within Provide. They will be responsible for pre-operative nursing and medical assessment of patients being prepared for a variety of day case podiatric procedures in elective to urgent categories. They will provide a comprehensive nursing and medical assessment, ensuring that all necessary investigations and results are collated prior to the patient's admission.
The post holder will manage and coordinate pre-admission health assessment, advice, information and support to patients, families and carers on all aspects of day case treatments. They will also be supported by a contracted peri-op physician as required for input on complex cases.
Main duties of the job
- Ensure that delivery of service/care is of a high standard and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Prioritise, organise and plan own workload to ensure safe and timely patient assessment.
- Delivery of up to date evidenced based care and advice is given to patients and carers.
- To develop a thorough understanding of the spectrum of foot surgery, risks, recovery and advice required to optimise patient understanding and compliance.
- Conduct pre-admission health assessment.
- Organise investigations in clinics following training and assessment, collate and interpret results, discuss findings with relevant staff.
- Ensure that all supportive pre-medication, hydration and medications have been prescribed.
- Manage omission and restart of medications prior to procedures in accordance with guidelines following an evaluation of the risks vs. the benefits.
- Liaise with the podiatric surgery team and GP's to ensure any patients unfit for admission are treated and followed up appropriately.
- Provide health education, advising healthy life style e.g. smoking cessation and weight loss advice.
- Identify patients that maybe unfit for day case admission or will require assistance at home are identified at pre-assessment clinic.
