An opportunity for a Clinical Fellow (Locally Employed Doctor) within the Urology Department has arisen for a period of 6-12 months depending on training needs. The post is to commence as soon as possible and will provide a great opportunity to receive further specialist experience in Urology.
Main duties of the job include:
- Cross covering both the Malignant and Benign services to ensure service needs are maintained.
- At least 6 clinical sessions including theatre, diagnostics, Out Patients, MDTs, and ward rounds.
- Flexibility with interchanging clinical sessions.
- Participation in a busy emergency on-call service accepting a full range of urological emergencies.
- Being part of the SpR rota with full prospective cover for annual leave, study leave, and bank holidays.
- Working in a Surgical Assessment Unit that admits all surgical and urological emergency admissions.
The Trust is a Major Trauma Centre and the Regional Burns Centre, fully integrated with the Centre for Defence Medicine. Military personnel work within all departments, and the Trust regularly accepts service personnel with both acute and elective conditions.

Job responsibilities include:
- Working within a team comprising 1 Associate Professor, 3 Honorary Senior Lecturers, 25 Consultants, and 2 Associate Specialists.
- Managing patients requiring partial nephrectomy, retroperitoneal node dissection, renal tumours invading the cava, robotic radical prostatectomy, cystectomy, and neobladders.
- Performing around 170 laparoscopic kidney operations, 200 robotic prostate operations, and 60 cystectomy procedures each year.
- Providing support for gynaecological colleagues at the Birmingham Women's Hospital.
- Participating in a well-established DaVinci robotic surgery programme for prostate surgery.
- Attending weekly MDT meetings and a 'tracker' meeting to review patients under the care of the MDT.
- Working as an integrated and flexible unit, cross covering operating days, Ward Rounds, clinics, MDTs, emergencies, and holidays.
Qualifications required:
- Medical Degree from a recognised University.
- Full GMC registration.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice.
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
Experience required:
- A minimum of 2 years full-time postgraduate training or equivalent experience and competencies.
- Previous experience in Urology within the NHS.
- MRCS Part A & B.
Desirable qualifications include other educational qualifications (ALS/APLS/ATLS) and registrar level Urology experience.
