Assistant Psychologist Middlesbrough

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Acute Adult Mental Health Wards at Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough. This post is offered on a permanent and full-time basis, and will cover three acute adult mental health wards, two male and one female ward. You will join a welcoming multi-disciplinary team in the provision of compassionate, trauma informed care to individuals in need of acute mental health care.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Psychology. Previous experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist and delivering psychologically informed interventions to people experiencing mental health difficulties would be desirable. This is a versatile and fast paced role; you will need to demonstrate compassion, be adaptable and work with flexibility, have excellent communication skills, and have experience of working within a team.

Main duties of the job:

• The post offers applicants an opportunity for direct and indirect work.
• The post holder will work under the supervision of an experienced Qualified Applied Psychologist in supporting the co-creation of MDT formulations and further assessment where needed to inform care and intervention planning.
• The post holders will be involved in supporting the provision of psychologically informed care and psychological interventions through direct and indirect clinical activities.
• This will include attendance at multidisciplinary meetings, contribution to psychological assessment and formulation, developing behaviour support plans, low grade psychological interventions, groups and evaluation of outcomes.
• There will also be opportunities for audit and service evaluation, as well as protected time for professional development.
• Opportunities are available to connect with other Assistant Psychologists within Adult Mental Health services across the Trust.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

• Essential: Degree in psychology. Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Knowledge and Experience:

• Essential: Experience of community sensitive information, experience of work interacting with the public, an understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities, an awareness of the application of psychology to health care, demonstrate an awareness of confidentiality within healthcare, awareness of the British Psychological Society Code of Conduct, awareness of systemic barriers to accessing psychological services/healthcare for minoritised communities.
• Desirable: Experience as a psychology assistant (paid or voluntary), experience working with people with mental health distress, learning disabilities or neurodiversity (paid or voluntary), experience of clinical audit, research or service evaluation, experience using statistical software packages e.g. R Studio, experience of using psychometric assessments, awareness of increasing access to psychological services/healthcare for minoritised communities, an ability to apply psychological knowledge to the population described in the job advert.

Experience:

• Essential: Some experience of people using services in psychological, mental health and/or social care settings. This may include, for example, personal experience or supporting a family member to access services. Experience in discussing and responding to issues related to cultural diversity, intersectionality and inclusivity, including working with vulnerable groups (e.g. those for whom English is not their first language).
• Desirable: Post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
