You will be an experienced and independent practitioner, responsible for delivering a wide range of complex cardiac diagnostic investigations and procedures, both invasive and non-invasive, across various clinical settings. In the role, you will support high standards of clinical care through expert practice, quality assurance, and professional development. The role involves active participation in the delivery of the 24/7 PPCI service (which includes participation in the on-call rota). You will provide mentorship and training of junior staff and students, and continuous contribution to service development and innovation. You will also play a key role in ensuring patient safety, service effectiveness, and adherence to national and local policies and protocols.
Main duties of the job:
- Actively participate in a range of clinical service areas to include 12 lead ECG, ambulatory monitoring, physiology-led exercise tolerance testing, Cardiac TILT testing, cardiac angiography and cardiac rhythm management.
- Manage own case-load using clinical expertise and judgement to prioritise workload and ensure the service is used effectively and appropriately.
- Practice in accordance with the Society of Cardiological Science and Technology Code of Conduct.
- Be accountable for own practice and for appropriate delegation of responsibilities to colleagues.
- Report to the relevant Lead Physiologist; with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Work closely with other physiologists, nurses, consultants, medical and nursing teams.
- Ensure accurate records are maintained regarding all implants and all Cath lab cases.
- Participate in audit processes and regular team meetings.

Job responsibilities:
- Actively participate in a range of clinical service areas including 12 lead ECG, ambulatory monitoring, physiology-led exercise tolerance testing, Cardiac TILT testing, cardiac angiography and cardiac rhythm management.
- Perform and supervise the recording of electrocardiograms for adult patients.
- Fit & remove Ambulatory Holter monitoring, BP and PADs, including explaining the use and care of the equipment to patients.
- Work as an independent practitioner to produce reports on diagnostic tests.
- Make judgements regarding the patient based on history or results of investigations performed.
- Provide technical support during pacing and routine cardiac catheterization.
- Recognise clinically significant deterioration of patients or significant abnormalities in diagnostic investigations.
- Take timely action, appropriately escalating to the Cardiology team or working with other agencies as required.
- Responsible for delivering a wide range of complex cardiac diagnostic investigations and procedures.
- Maintain competent practice in relation to Health and Safety and control of infection.
Person Specification:
Qualifications:
- Essential: BSc degree or equivalent in Cardiac Physiology.
- Desirable: RCCP/AHCS registration, Post graduate experience working in an acute clinical environment.
Experience:
- Essential: Proven experience across a broad range of cardiac investigation, diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Experience in audit and data reporting.
Additional Criteria:
- Demonstrable knowledge of all cardiac procedures and techniques within the scope of a physiologist.
- Ability to manage own workload and that of others where appropriate.
- Able to oversee junior members of staff and support with training as appropriate.
- Able to demonstrate a good standard of English language.
- Able to provide resuscitation to patients.
- Able to meet the physical demands of the job.
- To participate in Cath Lab on-call service.
