Strategic Treasurer for Dementia Charity (Remote) in Kirriemuir

What difference will you make? Your work as treasurer will have a direct line to families living with dementia across Scotland, at the most ambitious moment in our history. We plan to double the number of Meeting Centres over the next five years, and our ultimate aim is bigger still - a Meeting Centre for every community in Scotland, so that no family faces a dementia diagnosis without somewhere to go and people who understand. You can help make that happen. Scaling at that pace demands financial foundations to match. Your oversight will strengthen every funding application we make, and with funders increasingly wanting robust financial governance before committing to multi-year grants, a treasurer with grants and fundraising experience will give them, and us, real confidence. Your input will help secure and manage the income that opens new centres, sustains existing ones and funds our national programmes. You'll also help us answer the questions that growth of this scale raises. How do we fund the national body sustainably as the network doubles? How do we hold healthy reserves while investing in expansion? The decisions we make now will shape what Meeting Centres Scotland looks like in ten years, and your judgement will be at the centre of them. And as someone with personal experience of dementia, you'll strengthen something we consider non-negotiable - a board that understands its cause from the inside. That combination of financial rigour and lived experience is exactly what will keep us well-governed, true to the families we exist for, and on course for every community in Scotland.

What are we looking for?

• Financial Experience (essential) - You'll have a strong grounding in financial management, whether from a professional finance background, a senior role with budget responsibility, or previous treasurer experience in the charity sector. You should be comfortable reading and interpreting management accounts, advising on budgets and reserves, and explaining financial matters clearly to trustees who come from other backgrounds. A formal accountancy qualification is welcome but not required; sound financial judgement matters more to us than letters after your name.
• Grants And Fundraising Experience (highly Desirable) - Our income comes largely from grants and fundraised sources, so experience of the funding landscape will be a real asset. That might mean preparing budgets for funding applications, managing restricted funds and grant reporting, or working with major foundations and statutory funders. If you understand what funders look for and how to give them confidence, you'll add enormous value from day one.
• Personal Experience Of Dementia (essential) - Lived experience sits at the heart of everything we do, and we're specifically seeking a treasurer with personal experience of dementia. That could mean living with a diagnosis yourself, caring or having cared for someone with dementia, or close family experience of it. What matters is that you understand, from the inside, what a diagnosis means for a family.

Beyond that, you'll be collaborative and straightforward, comfortable working closely with a small staff team, and happy to ask questions and challenge constructively. Charity governance experience is helpful and far from essential; if you're new to trusteeship, we'll support you into the role. Above all, you'll share our belief that a dementia diagnosis should be the start of a new chapter, not the end of the story.

What will you be doing?

As our treasurer, you'll play a central role in one of the most exciting growth stories in Scotland's charity sector. Meeting Centres Scotland has grown from a single pilot in an Angus town to a national network of around 47 centres in under seven years, and the pace is not slowing. Your job will be to make sure our finances keep up with our ambition. This is a genuinely interesting treasurer role. Our income comes from a diverse and growing mix of sources, including multi-year grants from major foundations, partnership funding with health and social care bodies, and national programme funding across areas as varied as cancer support, climate resilience and work in prisons. Each funder brings its own reporting requirements, and as we scale, the board needs confident financial oversight to match. You'll lead on that, working closely with our CEO on quarterly management accounts, annual budgets, the trustees' report and accounts, and the financial elements of major funding applications and partnership agreements.

You'll also help us answer some big strategic questions over the next few years. How do we fund the national body sustainably as the network grows? How do we price and structure partnerships with statutory services? How do we hold healthy reserves while investing in growth? Your thinking will directly shape those decisions. Lived experience sits at the heart of our organisation, and that includes our board. Our chair is a person living with dementia, and trustees with personal experience of dementia guide everything we do. We are looking for a treasurer who shares that experience, because we believe the people steering the organisation should understand, from the inside, what a diagnosis means for a family. Your perspective will matter in every conversation, well beyond the numbers.

The board is friendly, informal and close to the work. Trustees are encouraged to visit Meeting Centres, meet members and carers, and see the impact of their decisions in person. Board meetings are held bi-monthly, generally online with the occasional in-person gathering, so location within Scotland is no barrier.
