Senior Medical Director/Medical Asset Lead RARE DISEASE- London HYBRID
We are currently collaborating with a client who is seeking a Medical Asset Lead/Senior Medical Director to join their Rare Disease team. This strategic senior role is pivotal in shaping the global medical vision and optimizing the full lifecycle of high-impact medical assets. The Medical Asset Lead will be responsible for aligning medical deliverables with the goals of the Global Asset Teams, positioning the asset for long-term success in a dynamic healthcare environment. As a line manager and leader, this individual will guide a team of medical directors and clinical scientists, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. They will also lead cross-functional Medical Asset sub-teams to define, drive, and deliver a comprehensive medical strategy that aligns with R&D, access, commercial, regulatory, and manufacturing plans, supporting the global brand vision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and deliver an integrated medical asset strategy to address patient needs.
- Create scientific rigor and medical value from late development phase to patent expiry and beyond.
- Own the overall medical strategy, establish project goals, and lead a cross-functional team to meet objectives.
- Outline an integrated evidence generation plan (IEGP) that shapes the competitive and prescription landscape.
- Integrate and influence the medical content of knowledge transfer, medical education, congress management, and KOL/TL engagements.
- Contribute to and influence BD opportunities for asset growth.
- Translate the medical plan into an executable roadmap with clear priorities.
- Oversee clinical trial and registry executions, ensuring alignment with all functions and operational excellence.
- Set short- and long-term medical strategy and operational priorities within corporate priorities.
- Lead the Medical Asset Team in coordination with R&D, market access, and commercial activities to maximize asset value.
- Develop and implement a communication strategy for the medical plans.
- Maintain the highest standards of scientific, technical, and clinical expertise in the specific therapeutic areas.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
- Build and manage strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide support to countries on all topics related to the Medical Asset Plan.
- Lead cross-functional teams and ensure high performance to execute the asset strategy.
- Ensure a continuous improvement mindset and find innovative ways of working through benchmarking and partnerships.
- Oversee the medical asset budget, ensuring projects are prioritized effectively.
Ethics & Compliance:
- Serve as a role model for ethics and compliance, ensuring the Medical Asset Plan adheres to standards and guidelines.
- Represent the Medical Asset at key governance committees and external meetings.
- Manage relationships with partners and stakeholders, ensuring the company’s position in congresses, KOL meetings, and with health authorities.
Qualifications:
- MD or PhD with strong relevant industry experience.
- 7+ years of experience in pharmaceutical leadership, including R&D, market access, commercialization, and manufacturing.
- Proven ability to lead and influence teams in both direct and indirect settings.
- Expertise in rare disease, including competitive landscape and key external experts.
- Fluent in English with international experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Cross-cultural awareness and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Strategic thinking with long-term implications in branding, targeting, and lifecycle management.
- Strong business acumen with an understanding of global markets.
- Proven leadership experience with a focus on stakeholder management.
- Customer-focused mindset with a capacity to provide both strategic thinking and operational solutions.
