Job Overview:
As a Senior Medical Writer, you will be responsible for developing and delivering scientifically accurate, high-quality content aligned with client objectives and project requirements. You will play a key role in various medical communication projects, managing content creation and providing mentorship to junior writers. The ideal candidate will possess advanced writing skills, a strong scientific background, and the ability to contribute strategically to the development of product strategies and publication plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Writing and Reviewing: Take ownership of the development and final delivery of scientifically accurate content, ensuring alignment with client objectives and budgetary and schedule requirements. Lead assigned projects and collaborate with in-house writers and freelancers, ensuring that all content meets the company’s editorial and scientific standards. Write content across a broad range of medical communication projects, adapting the style and tone to suit various target audiences. Ensure that all content is thoroughly reviewed for scientific accuracy, compliance, and editorial quality. Provide constructive feedback to junior writers and freelancers, ensuring consistency and quality across all projects. Maintain and update knowledge of client preferences and industry writing styles, ensuring that all changes are communicated effectively.
- Project Management: Manage projects to ensure timely delivery within budget and in compliance with client specifications. Brief in-house writers and freelancers on project requirements, ensuring clarity on editorial, strategic, and budgetary expectations. Oversee the production process, ensuring all necessary approvals and client amendments are completed prior to print/production/submission. Collaborate with the creative team, providing scientific direction and input into concept development.
- Client Management: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients and external thought leaders, fostering advocacy and collaboration. Provide expert scientific advice and support to clients, contributing to the development of product strategies and publication plans.
- Coaching and Mentoring: Coach and mentor junior writers, providing ongoing support, constructive feedback, and ensuring quality standards are met. Monitor and assess the professional development of junior team members, helping them to improve attention to detail and scientific accuracy. Offer feedback to senior management regarding the performance and professional growth of junior team members.
- Research Skills: Maintain awareness of the latest developments in relevant therapeutic areas, competitors, and new products or indications. Conduct in-depth research to gather and filter complex information for projects.
- Resource Management: Assist senior management in forecasting and discussing resource requirements for projects to ensure the efficient allocation of resources.
- Financial Management: Work with the client services team to monitor changes in project specifications or deadlines that may impact budgets and financial forecasts. Ensure accurate tracking of project time, completing timesheets in a timely manner.
- New Business Contribution: Collaborate with client services teams to identify new business opportunities and contribute to proposal writing and pitch presentations. Participate in new business pitches to showcase the company’s scientific and editorial expertise.
- General Responsibilities: Maintain proficiency with required software (e.g., Word, PowerPoint) and stay up-to-date with industry compliance guidelines. Adhere to client and company standard operating procedures and best practices.
