We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Corporate Health & Safety Manager to join our team. You will be the Council's competent person, ensuring we meet our legal obligations whilst promoting a culture of safety, wellbeing, and continuous improvement.
What you'll be doing:
- Represent the Council in discussions with enforcing authorities as the competent person
- Advise senior leaders and stakeholders on H&S matters
- Develop, implement and monitor corporate H&S strategies and policies
- Lead audits, ensure robust risk assessments are conducted, oversee the implementation of control measures
- Promote wellbeing initiatives and deliver engaging training and communication
- Investigate incidents, identify root causes and report findings with actionable recommendations
What we are looking for:
- A relevant degree or NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
- At least 3 years' senior level experience in occupational health and safety roles
- Strong knowledge of H&S legislation, risk management, and auditing practices.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to promoting safety and wellbeing across diverse teams

We are seeking a Health & Safety Manager to join the team, appointments are typically made at the entry point of the salary range this is Level A. Level A is the entry point to the role and all criteria is essential, so you will need to be able to demonstrate the relevant qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills to be appointable to the role, and appointments are typically made at the entry point of the salary range. You will be supported to develop in your role and through the salary range through induction, probation and a supportive Performance Appraisal and Career Conversation. Through your induction you will be introduced to the Career Progression Framework (CPF), which will help you to identify your areas of strength and any development needs.
Relocation package: In certain circumstances, and with prior agreement, Medway Council could provide assistance to support new employees moving home in order to take up their appointment. Terms and conditions apply, which can be accessed on request from recruitment@medway.gov.uk.
