Responsibilities
- Prompt and motivate the client with daily routines, housework, meal preparation, medication management and maintaining a safe home environment.
- Support dog care, training and daily walks.
- Encourage the client to engage in social activities and help build friendships.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as arranging medical appointments, handling correspondence and managing household tasks.
- Provide transport for necessary activities – a clean driving licence is essential.
- Offer emotional reassurance and communication support, particularly during moments of distress.
- Support the client in making independent decisions and maintaining physical activity and alertness.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Two references and an enhanced DBS check (cost covered by Local Authority).
- Willingness to learn and engage with complex mental health needs.
- Clean UK driving licence and personal car (if required).
- Experience or interest in safeguarding adults and children.
- Understanding of challenging behaviours, autism/Asperger’s, and epilepsy.
- Familiarity with Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) techniques is beneficial.
- Shift Details
- 12‑hour cover and ad‑hoc shifts, both day (9:00am–9:00pm) and night (9:00pm–9:00am).
- Coverage for personal assistant sickness and holiday leave.
- Client Profile & Support Needs
- Client has diagnoses including Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, ADHD, epilepsy and suspected autism.
- Requires risk‑management support, positive behaviour strategies, emotional regulation assistance and occasional medical assistance during seizures.
- Prefers a personal assistant who is kind, calm, empathetic, patient, reliable, physically active, open‑minded, eager to learn, and has a sense of humour.
- Dog‑loving and keen to interact with the client’s therapy dog are additional preferences.
