Eligibility & Screening

• Registered nurse or midwife.
• Minimum 2:1 degree qualification.
• Desirable: 2 years’ experience in the health visiting discipline.

Programme Details

• The programme comprises 50% theory and 50% practice and runs for 45 weeks per year, delivered in partnership with university and clinical settings.

Compensation & Benefits

• Midpoint Band 5 salary (sponsored/seconded).
• Tuition fees paid by NHS England.
• Travel expenses reimbursed when travelling on business.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with service users, professionals, supervisors and stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain working relationships with the practice assessor, supervisor and other partners.
• Plan, implement, assess, and evaluate client care in line with health visiting and school nursing principles.
• Use analytical and judgement skills to conduct robust health assessments.
• Complete required education and skills assessment to register as a specialist community public health nurse (Health Visitor).
• Meet all academic and practical deadlines and take responsibility for achieving targets.
• Operate safely and efficiently between destinations and visits, being IT competent and declaring any learning disabilities.
• Maintain accurate, timely records, including travel expenses, in accordance with organisational policies.
• Uphold the NMC Code of Conduct, confidentiality, record keeping, health and safety, safeguarding and other organisational guidelines.
• Contribute to policy and service development, including safeguarding and child‑abuse prevention.
• Engage in research and development activities, including progression to nurse prescribing and a year’s preceptorship after course completion.
• Work independently under established policies and guidelines, demonstrating professional and legal accountability.

Qualifications & Skills

• Registered nurse or midwife with a specialist interest in improving health and social outcomes for children and families.
• Strong communication, analytical, planning and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in IT and basic driving competence.
• Evidence of professional competence and ability to transfer transferable skills to health visiting.
