As a Senior Test Engineer within Digital Technologies’ engineering team, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy and technical leadership. You will be responsible for shaping quality strategy across complex products, influencing design decisions early, and ensuring consistent, compliant delivery. This role suits an engineer who is comfortable owning quality outcomes end to end and influencing across teams and disciplines who is also well versed in automation, exploratory testing and finds value in driving story development through user-centric examples.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Act as a senior quality owner for one or more product areas, accountable for test strategy and execution across the full delivery lifecycle.
- Partner with developers, architects, and product owners to define clear, testable acceptance criteria and ensure quality is built in from design onwards.
- Translate requirements and acceptance criteria into executable specifications and automated checks where appropriate.
- Lead acceptance and exploratory testing for complex stories, epics, and release candidates, focusing on risk-based coverage.
- Design, evolve, and govern test automation frameworks such as PyTest, Espresso, Jetpack.
- Compose UI, Postman, and Contract Testing, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
- Identify systemic non-functional risks (performance, reliability, security, usability) and drive mitigation with the wider engineering team.
- Define and uphold quality standards, test approaches, and best practices across teams.
- Provide clear visibility of quality status, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders beyond the immediate team.
- Influence sprint planning and estimation by highlighting testing complexity, dependencies, and risk.
- Drive work to completion within sprint cycles while maintaining long-term quality objectives.
- Mentor and support other test engineers, acting as a technical reference point for testing and automation.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Significant experience as an Embedded or Platform Test Engineer operating at senior level.
- Strong, practical expertise in Unix/Linux environments (command line).
- Proven experience testing hardware-integrated and native application systems.
- Strong programming skills with demonstrable automation experience (preferably Python, Kotlin, and JavaScript).
- Experience designing and maintaining scalable, maintainable automated test solutions.
- Ability to work independently, make informed quality decisions, and influence without authority.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Applied experience testing medical device hardware and software is a plus.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines with tools such as: Bitbucket, GitHub and Jenkins is preferred.
- Experience working in an agile team and knowledge of medical device software standards, IEC 62304 and ISO 13485 QMS, is also valued.

Pay range: United Kingdom: 76,800.00 GBP - 115,200.00 GBP | This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
