As our business continues to grow, the Finance team plays a vital role in ensuring we have the financial controls, insight and operational support needed to deliver outstanding healthcare services.

As Accounts Assistant / Ledger Controller, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day Sales and Purchase Ledger functions, ensuring invoices, payments, reconciliations and financial records are accurate, compliant and delivered on time. You'll work closely with colleagues across Operations, Commercial, HR and Finance, building strong relationships internally and externally to help keep the business running smoothly. This is more than a transactional finance role. You'll be encouraged to identify improvements, challenge existing processes and contribute to the development of an efficient, scalable finance function that supports a fast-paced, growing healthcare organisation.

What you'll be doing

  • Sales Ledger
    • Raise accurate customer invoices in line with contractual billing requirements, including recurring and ad hoc billing.
    • Maintain customer accounts within the finance system and allocate incoming receipts.
    • Reconcile customer accounts and resolve invoice or payment queries promptly.
    • Monitor aged debt and support credit control activities.
    • Produce customer statements and maintain accurate sales ledger records.
    • Complete month-end sales ledger activities, including reconciliations, intercompany billing and reporting on credit balances.
    • Build positive working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Purchase Ledger
    • Process supplier invoices, credit notes and expenses accurately and on time.
    • Match invoices to purchase orders where applicable and ensure appropriate authorisation and coding.
    • Prepare supplier payment runs and reconcile supplier statements.
    • Manage supplier queries and maintain supplier account records.
    • Process company credit card statements and support employee expenses.
    • Coordinate supplier onboarding and maintain supplier master data.
    • Complete month-end purchase ledger activities, including reporting on debit balances.
  • General Responsibilities
    • Manage the finance inbox and daily bank reporting.
    • Perform balance sheet reconciliations relating to ledger accounts.
    • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals, prepayments, deferred income and GRNI.
    • Prepare weekly debtor and creditor cash flow forecasts.
    • Support VAT, finance lease administration and audit requirements.
    • Maintain robust financial controls and ensure compliance with company policies.
    • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and support the wider Finance team as required.

To do this job well, you will need…

  • Essential
    • Previous experience in a Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, Accounts Assistant, or similar finance role.
    • Good understanding of accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
    • Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
    • Good organisational and time management skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Experience using accounting or ERP systems.
    • Strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Knowledge of VAT regulations and invoice compliance requirements.
  • Desirable
    • Accountancy qualification or studying towards one.
    • Experience of month-end processes and reconciliations.
    • Experience within a fast-paced finance environment.
