We're the fastest growing EdTech startup in London, on a mission to change education forever. This is a moment where AI-native companies are reshaping entire industries. Medly is building that company for education. Since launch, we've reached over 300,000 students with retention rates that beat Duolingo, and we've delivered personalised learning with real results. We're backed by impact-focused VCs and supported by partners including UCL, Innovate UK, Microsoft, and Google.
We're looking for an AI & Software Engineering Intern to join our London team. You'll work directly alongside our founders and engineers who've previously built at Meta, Atlassian, and more, on the AI systems that power Medly for hundreds of thousands of students. This is a real engineering role with a strong AI and data science focus. Expect to spend your time on evals, agentic feature work, dataset prep, and the end-to-end testing that keeps our AI features reliable in production.
What you'll do:
- Design and run AI evals to measure model quality across tutoring, marking, and content generation in a subject specific way.
- Build end-to-end tests for AI features so we can ship faster.
- Clean and prep datasets for fine-tuning our models.
- Help develop agentic AI features that act on a student's behalf across the platform.
- Get hands-on with our data: spotting patterns, surfacing insights, and shaping product decisions.
- Contribute to the wider codebase where it makes sense (Next.js, Python, Postgres, AWS).
What we're looking for:
- Currently studying Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Engineering, Data Science (or similar), or a very recent graduate.
- Solid Python skills, especially for data work.
- Comfortable with SQL and relational databases.
- Familiarity with LLMs and the basics of how they're trained, evaluated, and used.
- Genuine curiosity about how AI systems actually behave in the wild, not just in benchmarks.
- Hands-on experience with eval frameworks, prompt engineering, or fine-tuning.
- Worked with datasets at any meaningful scale (cleaning, labelling, deduping).
- Some AWS or cloud exposure, even from a side project.
- Something cool you've built in your own time that you'd love to show us.
Right to work: You must have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the internship. We're not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
Who thrives here:
- You care about quality and take pride in shipping polished work.
- Curious about how things work, and willing to dig into other people's code to learn.
- Happy to take initiative. If something's broken, you fix it or flag it rather than waiting to be told.
- Comfortable in a startup environment. Things move quickly and priorities shift.
What you'll get:
- Paid full-time internship at the London Living Wage.
- Mentorship from founders and senior engineers with experience at Meta, Atlassian, and beyond.
- Hybrid setup: 4 days in our central London office, Wednesdays from home.
- Work on a product used by hundreds of thousands of students worldwide.
- A team that takes your ideas seriously and ships them.
