The Role
As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will play a key role in delivering outstanding clinical care while providing leadership and support to the nursing team. You will be responsible for maintaining high clinical standards, mentoring colleagues, and working closely with the Partners and Practice Manager to ensure the continued success and growth of the practice.

Key Responsibilities
Client Care
- Deliver exceptional care and service to clients every day.
- Manage client concerns and complaints professionally and effectively.
- Ensure clients receive timely updates regarding their pet's treatment and wellbeing.
- Maintain excellent communication with clients throughout procedures and ongoing treatment plans.
- Ensure continuity of communication for patients receiving out-of-hours or enhanced care through our partnership with Medivet Watford 24.
Patient Care
- Carry out consultations, diagnostics, surgeries and medical procedures.
- Take overall responsibility for patient care and monitoring.
- Manage admissions and discharges where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
- Complete thorough clinical handovers for any patient requiring transfer for out-of-hours or enhanced care.
- Prescribe medications and complete dispensing checks in accordance with professional standards.
Clinical Leadership
- Provide clinical leadership and guidance to the veterinary and nursing teams.
- Support and mentor colleagues, including graduate vets, with clear development plans.
- Promote a progressive clinical culture focused on continuous improvement.
- Share clinical best practice within the clinic and across the wider Medivet community.
- Lead engaging clinical discussions and meetings to support team development and patient outcomes.
Standards & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with RCVS, Medivet and regulatory standards.
- Promote and maintain high standards of clinical governance and patient safety.
- Ensure health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
- Support the implementation of new clinical processes and standards.
Commercial Performance
- Understand and contribute to key performance indicators and commercial objectives.
- Work closely with the Partners and Practice Manager to maximise clinical efficiency and performance.
- Prepare accurate estimates and treatment plans for clients.
- Support effective debt management and client payment processes.
- Identify opportunities for sustainable growth while maintaining exceptional patient care.
Clinical Administration
- Ensure laboratory tests and diagnostics are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Escalate operational or clinical concerns where appropriate.
- Support the smooth day‑to‑day running of the practice.
About You
