As a Practice Manager you will work under the guidance and leadership of the Branch Partners ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our veterinary clinics. Managing the team, you are responsible for ensuring we deliver exceptional care, always there for our clients, patients and colleagues whilst maintaining the highest levels of compliance with regulatory, operational and practice standards, alongside maximising the commercial performance of our clinic(s).
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Practice Manager to join the teams at Medivet Watford and Medivet Borehamwood on a fixed-term maternity cover contract starting in October. This is a key leadership role, providing operational support and effective management across both practices to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care, outstanding client service and a positive working environment for our teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the smooth day-to-day running of both practices, working closely with veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and colleagues in our support centre. You will play a vital role in leading people, managing operational processes and ensuring both practices continue to thrive throughout the maternity cover period. We are looking for a proactive, organised and confident leader who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has a passion for developing teams and improving practice performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of both Medivet Watford and Medivet Borehamwood practices.
- Manage and resolve client complaints professionally, ensuring concerns are handled effectively and outcomes are communicated appropriately.
- Lead recruitment processes for both clinical and non-clinical roles.
- Conduct return-to-work meetings and support effective absence management.
- Complete probation reviews for new starters.
- Carry out regular one-to-one performance reviews and support ongoing employee development.
- Prepare and hold monthly staff meetings.
- Manage staff rotas, annual leave and workforce planning across both practices.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements and Medivet policies.
- Oversee payroll processes, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
- Process commission payments.
- Oversee building maintenance, facilities and repair works across both locations.
- Monitor and support the management of client debt in line with company procedures.
- Support the onboarding, training and development of new starters and existing team members.
- Work collaboratively with Medivet Support Centre departments, including HR, Finance, Recruitment and Facilities.
- Arrange locum and overtime cover where required to maintain appropriate staffing levels and continuity of service.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a management or leadership role, ideally within a veterinary, healthcare or customer-focused environment.
- Experience managing multiple teams or locations would be advantageous.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support and develop colleagues.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands.
- Experience with recruitment, performance management, rota planning and payroll processes.
- Confidence handling client concerns, employee relations and operational challenges.
- A proactive approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues at all levels.
- A commitment to delivering high standards of patient care and client experience.
