Job Overview
Medius Payments is a fast‑scaling product within Medius's Spend Management platform, with an ambitious roadmap spanning the UK, Benelux, Nordics, France, and North America. We serve customers from upper mid‑market to enterprise, and our payments capability — including B2B card programs — is a strategic growth driver for the business.
We're looking for a Principal Product Manager to own a significant domain within Medius Payments, sitting at the intersection of B2B card products, payment rails, partner integrations, and spend management workflow automation. This is a senior, highly executional role for someone who has shipped complex B2B payments products at scale and can operate across strategy, discovery, and delivery without losing altitude.
You’ll be the payments product voice in cross‑functional conversations and a go‑to expert for cards (virtual, commercial, and buyer‑initiated), payment rails, and B2B payables flows. This is not a coordination role — you'll spend most of your time doing the work.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Strategy & Ownership
- Own the product roadmap and outcomes for your domain within Medius Payments, with particular focus on B2B card programs (virtual cards, commercial cards, buyer‑initiated payments) and underlying payment rails.
- Define and defend prioritization decisions with clear commercial and customer rationale, balancing near‑term execution with longer‑term strategic bets.
- Monitor the B2B payments landscape — including emerging payment schemes, open banking developments, and regulatory shifts across US, UK and EU — and translate these into actionable roadmap inputs.
- Product Execution
- Write and refine detailed PRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria; own specs from discovery through to release.
- Partner closely with engineering and design to shape solutions, review flows, and ensure delivery quality — including rolling up your sleeves on 3rd‑line support and bug triage.
- Drive integration design with external payment partners, card scheme networks, and banking providers, ensuring technical and commercial alignment.
- Translate product vision and complex regulatory requirements into clear, scalable product requirements without losing commercial pragmatism.
- Stakeholder & Partner Leadership
- Serve as the senior payments' product expert in commercial, sales, and customer conversations — articulating capability, limitations, and roadmap direction without over‑committing.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with payment partners.
- Collaborate with Medius Suite PMs to ensure Payments changes are coordinated across the broader AP and Spend management platform.
- Support go‑to‑market teams with product expertise, enablement materials, and launch documentation.
- Compliance & Risk
- Work with the legal and regulatory team to monitor global payment regulation changes and proactively adjust execution plans to maintain compliance readiness across all active geographies.
- Apply sound risk and control thinking to product design, particularly for card issuance, payment initiation, and supplier‑facing flows.
- AI & Pod Leadership
- This role is a Pod Lead in Medius’s AI‑native operating model. You are the single accountable leader of one of the Payments value stream pods — directing the work, leading engineers' day to day, and owning the outcome.
- Drive agent leverage within the pod.
- Use AI tooling to accelerate discovery.
- Own pod velocity as a first‑class accountability: spec to build to ship.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of product management experience, with a significant portion focused on B2B payments products in SaaS, fintech, or financial services.
- Deep hands‑on expertise in B2B card products — virtual cards, commercial card programmes, buyer‑initiated payments, or equivalent — and how they integrate within AP or procurement workflows.
- Strong understanding of payment rails in the US, UK and EU (ACH, Checks, Cards, BACS/CHAPS, SEPA, card scheme networks) and how they underpin B2B payment product design.
- Proven track record of owning and delivering complex, multi‑geography payment products end‑to‑end.
- Experience working directly with external payment partners, card scheme networks, or banking providers at a product level.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — able to write a crisp PRD and explain payment complexity in plain language to a CFO or an engineer alike.
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, global environment with multiple parallel workstreams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AP automation, ERP integrations, or spend management platforms.
- Familiarity with US, UK and/or EU payment regulation.
- Experience at a B2B SaaS scale‑up or payments infrastructure company.
AI Fluency & Ways of Working
- Comfortable using AI tools as part of daily product work — agent‑assisted spec writing, AI‑powered discovery synthesis, or automated PRD drafting.
- Able to review and take accountability for AI‑generated output and set appropriate decision‑authority boundaries for agents operating within a product team.
