An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Deputy Manager to join our dedicated team at a 3-bed children's home in Fratton, Portsmouth, supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) and complex needs. We provide a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic home environment where every child feels valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential. As Deputy Manager, you'll play an essential role in leadership, ensuring the home runs smoothly and maintains the highest standards of care and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day operational management of the home, ensuring compliance, safety, and quality care delivery.
- Deputise in the Manager's absence, providing leadership and stability for both staff and young people.
- Supervise and mentor a team of residential care workers, promoting reflective practice and professional growth.
- Contribute to care planning and reviews, always keeping children's needs and goals at the centre.
- Foster a therapeutic, relationship-based culture that promotes emotional wellbeing, stability, and personal development.
- Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with staff, families, social workers, and external agencies.
- Participate in on-call duties and contribute to a consistent and supportive rota structure.
About You
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a residential childcare setting, including at least 1 year in a senior or leadership capacity.
- Solid knowledge of safeguarding, EBD, and trauma-informed care.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) - essential.
- Working towards or willing to undertake Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management (Children and Young People's Services).
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Resilient, calm, and empathetic approach with a passion for supporting young people.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and on-call.
