Starting salary £37,004 per annum, with £464 per month late shift allowance, 10% annual bonus potential, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays. Pension scheme with highly competitive contribution rates. Permanent, Full time, 41 hours per week at Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre, Langley, Slough, SL3 8AQ.

Royal Mail International Operations operates from the HWDC (Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre), the UK's largest and most advanced automated hub. This facility processes worldwide imports and exports, adhering to stringent customs and aviation security standards, and connects with over 195 countries globally. Spanning 45,000 square metres, HWDC has the capability to manage around 1 million import/export items daily.

Currently, we are seeking a dedicated individual to join us as an Operational Work Area Manager for the late shift. In this role, you will oversee a team of frontline staff within a specific area of the plant, driving high performance, motivation and commitment among team members.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team of up to 40 full and part-time employees.
  • Conducting regular one-on-one and team meetings.
  • Monitoring daily performance and plans.
  • Managing various aspects such as sick leave, attendance, training, and team engagement.
  • Prioritising health and safety measures.
  • Enhancing operational efficiency and pinpointing areas for enhancement.
  • Collaborating with the Shift Manager to uphold service excellence for our customers and ensure the achievement of all operational objectives.

Shift pattern: Monday to Friday 13:48 - 22:00 (Late shift). A degree of flexibility is required to meet operational requirements.

Skills and experience:

  • Operational knowledge of HWDC Export and Import processing of parcels and the overall pipeline (beneficial).
  • Automation knowledge, mechanical performance metrics and the role of engineering in effective automation performance.
  • Managing and leading a large team to maximise performance.
  • People and good communication skills, able to engage and motivate team members to work to high standards.
  • Target driven with a track record of improving performance and achieving KPIs.
  • Experience of introducing change/improvements and successfully leading people through change.
  • Data analysis and problem solving, the ability to use data to identify trends in performance and then develop solutions/make improvements.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders to achieve business benefits.
  • The ability to use Microsoft Office programmes including Excel (formulas and other functions), Microsoft Word (writing reports) and PowerPoint (presentation).
