Location: Field-based – covering South East Thames Valley & Home Counties

Hours: 38 hours/week (Mon–Fri, 07:30–15:36)

Join us at Thames Water as a Network Metering Technician in a full-time, permanent role.

You\’ll play a key part in maintaining and repairing district and zonal meters, as well as critical pressure points, ensuring the reliability of our water network reporting systems.

This field-based role offers variety, independence, and the chance to make a real impact using your technical and diagnostic skills.

What you will be doing as a Metering Network Technician

  • Use current planning systems to review all activity and retrieve the activity to carry out suitable maintenance.
  • Use technical systems to review history and be able to carry out a suitable maintenance strategy.
  • Making technical decisions on work being carried out, keeping in mind the impact on the network as well as how customers, internal and external, are affected.
  • Working with field teams and the control function to determine the cause of complex/difficult flow and pressure issues.
  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on zonal and district /zonal meters, critical pressure points, Bulk Meters and CNUS logging, for example.
  • Always maintain key material/equipment stocks on your Van.

What should you bring to the role?

  • A completed electrical apprenticeship with strong, multi-skilled experience in electrical systems
  • Relevant qualifications such as ONC/HNC, NVQ, BTEC, or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical instrumentation and, ideally, instrument programming.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and the ability to learn bespoke software.
  • A proactive, self-motivated attitude with strong organisational skills.
  • High standards of reliability, safety awareness, and attention to compliance.
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable interacting with both colleagues and the public.
  • A full and clean UK driving licence is essential. Due to the nature of the role, ideally with knowledge of the Road Traffic Management Act (NRSWA), although full training regarding this can be provided.
