Library Service Team Asset Assistant
Permanent, Full Time
£25,081 per annum

The Role
We are looking for someone to join the Library distribution team to deliver, collect and transport Library books and other material between service points, partner locations and the Library Support Unit at Freebournes Witham.
The purpose of this job is to operate a light van delivery service.
Our Distributors play a vital role in delivering a quality service to the libraries and users of Essex.
You are required to hold a full current UK driving licence and have knowledge and experience of driving a light van or similar vehicle. You need to have the ability to work alone using your own initiative, as well as working as part of a busy team.
You would have to have knowledge of safe lifting and handling techniques, as you will be dealing with heavy trugs of books etc., daily however comprehensive training will be given.
Also required – experience of carrying out vehicle maintenance checks, cleaning and maintaining vehicles, and keeping them in good working order.
You will have a friendly, outgoing personality and the ability to liaise with library staff and to deliver the highest standards to our customers.
Accountabilities
- Responsible for maintaining an effective delivery and collection service of materials from Libraries and other ECC buildings.
- Responsible for carrying out all administrative and operational functions associated with ECC vehicles, including daily vehicle checks and cleaning, in accordance with the requirements of the daily log sheet book.
- Delivers and collects materials and vehicles, in accordance with scheduled routes and timetables, adhering to the Council\’s driving standards.
- Undertake stock circulation and maintenance procedures, ensuring effective and efficient delivery to customers.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Educated to level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent experience. Possess a current, clean driving licence, Category C1 specification desirable but not required.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in relevant professional area.
- Significant commercial driving experience with the ability to drive a 3.5-5.5 tonne vehicle desirably.
- Experience of working within a library or education setting is desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to resolve issues and problems.
- Good communication skills, with an ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and partners.
