Role: Culture and Heritage Manager
Location: Chorley and South Ribble
Contract: Full time (36.25 hours per week) / Permanent
Salary: 43,693 – 44,711 (plus 6% car allowance)
Closing Date: 6 July 2025

Are you passionate about preserving history and inspiring communities through culture? Chorley and South Ribble Councils are seeking a visionary Culture and Heritage Manager to lead the strategic development and delivery of our cultural and heritage services.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our boroughs\’ cultural landscape, managing iconic sites such as Astley Hall and South Ribble Museum, whilst driving forward an ambitious and inclusive cultural strategy.

What you\’ll be getting up to
  • Leading the development and implementation of a cultural strategy for both councils.
  • Managing the boroughs\’ museums and heritage assets, ensuring conservation and accreditation standards are met.
  • Creating a vibrant, accessible cultural programme that enhances community engagement and boosts the local economy.
  • Overseeing a talented team including museum, education, and visitor services professionals.
  • Building strong partnerships with stakeholders, volunteers, and cultural organisations.
  • Securing and managing external funding to support cultural initiatives.
  • Collaborating on large-scale conservation projects with internal teams and external consultants.
  • Championing cultural inclusion and community cohesion through events, education, and outreach.
Who we\’re looking for
  • A relevant degree and/or postgraduate qualification in museums, heritage, or a related field.
  • Experience in a local authority or similar cultural setting.
  • Proven leadership in managing teams, budgets, and projects.
  • Experience developing and delivering cultural strategies and programmes.
Other requirements
  • This role requires some travel around our boroughs. You should have a valid driving licence or the equivalent mobility.
