We are now looking for an ambitious and detail-oriented Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance team and support the continued success of the business.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified accountant looking to take the next step in their finance career.

Working closely with the Finance Manager and wider Finance team, you will play a key role in supporting month-end activities, management reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and financial controls.

You'll gain valuable exposure across operational finance, commercial analysis, business partnering and strategic decision-making, with a strong development pathway towards a future Management Accountant position.

We're looking for someone who is proactive, analytical and eager to continue their professional development while making a meaningful contribution to a fast-paced and growing organisation.

Salary - up to £35,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Management Accounting & Reporting
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and post month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and reclassifications.
  • Support variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior year performance.
  • Prepare monthly reporting packs for internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate working papers and reporting documentation.
  • Lead the VAT submission process.
  • Balance Sheet and Financial Control
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items promptly.
  • Support the maintenance of fixed asset registers and related accounting entries.
  • Promote strong financial controls and ensure accounting procedures are followed consistently.
  • Escalate risks, unusual movements or unresolved issues to the Finance Manager.
  • Planning, Forecasting & Analysis
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities through data preparation and analysis.
  • Analyse financial performance and identify key trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Produce ad-hoc financial analysis to support operational and commercial decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with non-finance stakeholders to improve accuracy of inputs and understanding of financial performance.
  • Process Improvement and Systems
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency, automation and data quality.
  • Support finance system developments and process improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across month-end, reconciliations and reporting routines.
  • Audit & Compliance
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain clear and accurate audit trails and records.

Essential

What We're Looking For

  • Approximately 2-3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role.
  • Part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA, with several exams remaining.
  • Good understanding of month-end accounting, journals and reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
  • Good attention to detail, organisation and deadline management.
  • Clear communication style and ability to work with finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Experience in a management accounting, CAPEX & OPEX.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as Sage, IFS or similar.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and KPI reporting.
  • An interest in process improvement, automation and systems development.
