Registered Nurse Day: Monday - Friday Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Pay: $41.00 - $51.00 / hour
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans according to established policies and procedures.
- Conduct initial medical screenings and assessments for all incoming inmates and provide ongoing healthcare as needed throughout their incarceration.
- Perform comprehensive physical assessments and history reviews to determine patient health status and prioritize care needs.
- Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and medical interventions in compliance with physician orders and healthcare protocols.
- Provide care for patients with chronic conditions, acute illnesses, and mental health issues, coordinating with other healthcare providers as necessary.
- Respond to and manage medical emergencies, including trauma and medical crises, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions.
- Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and progress in the electronic medical record (EMR) in accordance with facility policies and legal requirements.
- Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and local healthcare regulations, as well as facility-specific policies.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of medical treatments, interventions, and patient outcomes, including maintaining detailed medical records for audits and compliance reviews.
- Participate in the collection and submission of patient data for quality improvement initiatives and regulatory reporting.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, mental health professionals, and correctional officers, to provide comprehensive care to inmates.
- Collaborate with facility leadership and healthcare providers to address and resolve patient care issues and improve health outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families (as needed), and correctional facility staff regarding treatment plans, health education, and health-related concerns.
- Provide education to inmates on health management, disease prevention, and post-care instructions.
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to other nursing staff, providing guidance and support on clinical practices, protocols, and emergency response procedures.
- Assume leadership roles in the absence of higher-level management, including overseeing day-to-day operations of the nursing team and ensuring proper patient care delivery.
- Supervise and assist LPNs and nursing assistants in patient care tasks, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and best practices.
- Ensure medical equipment and supplies are appropriately stocked, maintained, and functioning properly; report any issues to facility management.
- Assist with maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment that meets infection control and safety standards.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and clinical outcomes within the facility.
- Follow established policies and procedures, including those related to infection control, safety protocols, and medication administration.
- Contribute to the development and review of healthcare policies and clinical procedures to ensure they remain in line with current practices and regulations.
- Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the facility’s healthcare needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A current, valid state(s) Registered Nurse licensure.
- An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- 1–3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment.
- Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment is preferred.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, adhere to protocols, and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced, structured environment.
- Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).
