Consultant Opportunities in General Medicine & General Paediatrics. Australia has opened a new fast-track pathway to specialist registration for internationally trained General Physicians and General Paediatricians.
From 19 January 2026, eligible doctors can apply directly to the Medical Board of Australia, bypassing the traditional full college assessment process and moving straight toward consultant-level practice.
Who Can Apply?
- General Paediatrics: Hold UK MRCPCH + CCT (awarded from August 2007 onwards) or Ireland MRCPI (Paeds) + CSCST (from July 2010 onwards). Recent experience in general paediatrics is required.
- General Medicine: Hold UK MRCP(UK) + CCT in General Internal Medicine (from August 2007), GIM with Acute Medicine (from August 2009), or approved dual CCT pathways (from August 2019). Recent practice in general medicine is required.
