As a Scheme Medical Adviser (SMA) at Medigold Health, you will play a key role in assessing ill‐health retirement and injury benefit applications and delivering pensions medical advice to support our clients, in the public and private sector. You will be part of a dedicated team ensuring the highest standards of pensions medical advice while using Medigold Health's internal systems to maintain accurate medical records and deliver an efficient, scheme compliant service. While previous pensions experience is preferable, full training will be provided. You will also have one‐to‐one support and mentoring from senior Scheme Medical Advisers and regular contact with peers through team meetings, in addition to access to wider internal CPD opportunities within Medigold Health. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in a fascinating, stimulating, and often complex and challenging area, in order to support pension trustees and other delegated authorities to undertake their responsibilities in a procedurally and legally compliant way.
Responsibilities:
- The delivery of the Pensions Medical Services to Medigold Health clients and to ensure that the provision of the pensions medical advice is, at all times, of the highest standard.
- To ensure best practice, including a standardised approach to pensions medical assessments, which are fair, objective and compliant with relevant regulatory requirements.
- Provide medical advice as Scheme Medical Adviser on the applicability of pension scheme criteria in individual cases. Work may include reviews of existing awards and appeals, in addition to injury benefit assessments.
- Utilise Medigold's internal medical records database and diary system to ensure that the clinical procedures are fulfilled.
- In general, pensions work is system‐based and remote with no direct contact with the pension scheme member, so Scheme Medical Advisers work from home. Liaise with Administrators/Team Leaders regarding both client and pension scheme member queries (with support from Senior Scheme Medical Advisers as appropriate).
Requirements:
- AFOM is the minimum qualification required, but preferably MFOM or FFOM.
- Current GMC registration.
- At least 3 years of experience in occupational medicine.
- Previous pensions experience is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent analytical and report writing skills, with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Outlook and Word is essential, Excel and PowerPoint desirable.
Benefits:
- 31 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays, increasing with length of service.
- Pension Scheme.
- Paid Professional Memberships and Indemnity Insurance.
- Access to Company benefits and discount portal.
- Access to a Health Cash Plan.
- Free eyecare vouchers.
- Cycle to work scheme.
- Access to confidential Employee Assistance programme.
