About the Role

Position: PLPI Team Lead (Pharmaceuticals) – Established Medicines Function, Health Quality & Access group.

Location: 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf, London, E14 4PU.

Employment: Full‑time, permanent. Hybrid working—minimum 8 days per month on site (flexible up to 12 days) with the remainder remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and develop a multidisciplinary team of assessors, ensuring effective performance, professional development and staff wellbeing through mentorship, training and supervision.
  • Provide authoritative pharmaceutical expertise on the assessment of parallel imported medicines, including complex or novel applications and variations, using professional judgement to resolve technical issues.
  • Design, implement and maintain efficient, consistent assessment processes, ensuring SOPs, guidance and PI Unit policies remain accurate, up to date and aligned with regulatory changes.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the PI scheme, delivering high‑quality advice to internal and external stakeholders and managing enquiries and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the parallel import scheme and the assessment of source products.
  • Demonstrate proven experience of dealing with complex technical issues arising from the assessment of parallel import applications where no previous precedent has been set.
  • Stay conversant with, and have experience of working to, relevant legislation and procedures applicable to the licensing of human medicinal products.
  • Successfully manage, motivate and influence staff to deliver team objectives with high accuracy and appropriate recommendations to protect public health.

Qualifications

  • Experience in leading and developing teams in a regulatory or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Strong analytical skills – ability to interpret complex technical, scientific and regulatory information and make evidence‑based recommendations within legislative frameworks.
  • Deep knowledge of the parallel import scheme, including source product assessment and its role in human medicinal product licensing.
  • Degree in pharmacy, chemistry, pharmaceutical science or a related discipline.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to present complex scientific and regulatory issues orally and in writing to varied stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to deliver accurate, high‑quality regulatory activities under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
