We are currently looking for a Laboratory Services Coordinator to join our Infrastructure and Laboratory Services within the Corporate group. We have two full-time opportunities, one on a permanent basis and one on a fixed term contract for a period of 2 years, which existing civil servants can apply for on a loan basis. All roles will be appointed on a merit order basis. Please indicate in the application question which role you are applying for. These roles will be based onsite at our Science Campus in South Mimms, Hertfordshire. This role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
Whatβs the role? The role is responsible for the provision of essential Laboratory Services to Science & Research at the South Mimms campus. The post is responsible for laboratory glassware and equipment cleaning, decontamination of hazardous materials, and operation, maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. It also includes laboratory laundry, hygiene and washroom services.

Responsibilities
- Maintain autoclaves and other critical equipment (industrial washers, sterilising ovens), ensuring loads are suitable for decontamination or sterilisation; address faults and faults on these machines.
- Contribute to reviews of Laboratory Service provision, equipment, processes and procedures; identify improvements to reduce time and costs.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers, organise and coordinate contractors/engineers in laboratory areas; ensure compliance with health and safety rules.
- Liaise with staff across levels to resolve issues related to equipment and supply problems.
Qualifications and Skills
- Organisation and planning; ability to make plans and maximise time and productivity.
- Problem solving with a positive approach and ability to identify solutions.
- Relevant scientific or technical background; degree in a scientific subject or equivalent experience.
- Experience delivering a quality service; ability to work with stakeholders to set priorities and timescales, delivering high-quality outcomes and value for money.
- Knowledge of industrial-sized sterilising and cleaning equipment; experience with maintenance and repair in a complex laboratory environment.
