Higher Scientist, Molecular assays and immunochemistry

We are looking for a Higher Scientist to join our Control Testing Team within the Science, Research and Innovation group. This full‑time, permanent role is lab‑based in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, and is available only for UK candidates. The role offers flexible working requests which should be discussed with the hiring manager before accepting an appointment.

The Control Testing team delivers the statutory function of independent control testing of biological medicines.

The post‑holder will be responsible for planning, managing and ensuring day‑to‑day delivery of resources to meet relevant Key Performance Indicators. The successful candidate will primarily work in the Immunochemistry assays team, developing and performing analytical techniques such as ELISA‑based assays and immunodiffusion. Flexibility to work across other test areas (Separation science, cell‑based assays, molecular assays and biochemical assays) is expected.

• Accountable to the Immunochemistry Team Lead to ensure timely delivery of testing of biological medicines compliant with ISO 17025 and other quality systems.
• Contribute to analytical tests, analysing data, identifying issues and providing advice across the Agency to support product lifecycle, standardisation, regulatory decisions and adverse event investigations.
• Engage with national and international stakeholders including WHO, EDQM and academic institutes to deliver expert services, training, and scientific advice.
• Manage day‑to‑day implementation of the Control Testing function, improving patient outcomes through resource organisation, process improvement, training and assay development; work with team leads to develop cross‑training opportunities.

• Hold a degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience, including experience in immunoassays (e.g., ELISAs, immunodiffusion) and broad laboratory experience in HPLC, cell‑based assays, molecular or biochemical techniques.
• Demonstrate competence in method development and validation, including use of statistical packages to analyse and present data.
• Show accuracy and precision with attention to detail within a quality management system such as ISO 17025.
• Use a Laboratory Information Management System for accurate data capture, analysis and review.
• Collaborate and communicate clearly, establishing professional relationships with stakeholders.
• Deliver timely results with a focus on team priorities and strategic objectives.
• Apply strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, seeking evidence‑based solutions.

• Experience of working accurately and precisely with emphasis on ISO 17025.
• Experience of method development and validation, including statistical analysis.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
