Job Summary
We are currently looking for a Deputy Head of Financial Accounting and Reporting to join our Finance function in the Corporate group. This is a full-time opportunity, on a permanent basis. The role will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
An Accountancy Allowance is available – £2,000 (part qualified candidates) or £4,000 (qualified candidates). Please discuss with the hiring manager before accepting the offer.
Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites.
We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business.

Job Description
The Deputy Head of Financial Accounting and Reporting is responsible for financial management, control and assurance in the Agency. You will also work with the Government Internal Audit Agency and the National Audit Officer to meet government objectives for ensuring value for money and financial control.
Duties Will Include:
- Preparing the interim and year-end financial statements including the narrative sections ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, public sector accounting requirements and International Financial Reporting Standards.
- Providing advice on the application of accounting standards, and tax/financial control issues.
- Responsibility for all aspects of the General Ledger, including chart of accounts, banking, VAT, Fixed Asset register, reconciliations.
- Liaising with external auditors over the audit period to ensure smooth progression of audit of the Annual Reports and Accounts.
- Taking accountability and ownership for the submission of financial reports to DHSC and HM Treasury.
- Acts as a subject expert, providing technical accounting advice in line with IFRS and the Financial Reporting Manual (FreM) and other relevant Government guidance documents.
- Managing a diverse team and ensuring all professional training and development requirements are met.
Person specification
The successful Deputy Head of Financial Accounting and Reporting will be a Qualified Accountant (CCAB) with extensive experience of preparing financial statements using International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and taking those statements through the audit and publication processes.
Ideally you will have experience of reporting to central government and Departments and have knowledge public sector financial reporting and management rules (including Financial Reporting Manual (FreM), Managing Public Money, etc).
Previous exposure to managing and developing staff is essential.
