Are you a patient, resilient and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant with experience supporting children and young people with additional needs and challenging behaviour?

We are recruiting for Behaviour Support Assistants to join specialist SEN schools across Romford and Waltham Forest, supporting pupils with Autism (ASD), SEMH needs, ADHD, communication difficulties and behavioural challenges.

The schools support pupils aged 2-19 years, from Early Years through to Sixth Form, with a range of additional needs including ASD, SLD, PMLD, communication difficulties, sensory needs and complex learning needs.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with behavioural and additional learning needs.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, social skills and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement in learning.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and follow EHCP targets.
  • De-escalate challenging situations using a calm and proactive approach.
  • Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and resilience.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, parents and other professionals.
  • Monitor pupil progress and behaviour.
  • Help create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
  • Experience within a school, alternative provision, youth work, care, support work or residential setting.
  • Strong behaviour management skills.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and act as a role model.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children and young people.
  • Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.

Experience with Team Teach, MAPA, positive behaviour support, trauma-informed practice or de-escalation strategies would be highly beneficial.
