Assistant General Counsel – Job Description

Medical Solutions is hiring an Assistant General Counsel. This position will provide legal support to the Company primarily in the areas of litigation, dispute management and general risk management. The Assistant General Counsel will partner closely with the Associate General Counsel, manage outside litigation counsel, and provide general legal advice to team members throughout the organization. Assistant General Counsel will report to the Associate General Counsel.

Responsibilities

1. Conduct research and analyze legal issues, including, but not limited to, wage and hour, employment discrimination, employee benefits, professional negligence, and commercial disputes.
2. Monitor and research legislation and laws relevant to the staffing industry generally and healthcare staffing specifically.
3. Work independently and with a team displaying excellent judgment and strategic thinking, and providing practical, straightforward, prompt, and business-oriented advice to internal clients.
4. Assist with the management of the company’s professional liability and employment litigation and disputes, and report to the Associate General Counsel on significant litigation and disputes.
5. Advise the company on hiring processes, including review of and advice regarding the application of and compliance with restrictive covenants.
6. Manage requests for depositions and legal interviews of the company’s traveling clinicians.
7. Manage the company’s outside counsel in collection and bankruptcy litigation and, as lead counsel, enforce the company’s rights as a creditor in intermediate-level collection disputes in state court.
8. In collaboration with the Manager of Legal Operations, manage objections, responses, and document production in response to third-party subpoenas; manage response to potential legal claims; manage litigation intake processes including legal holds, initial investigations and fact development; develop processes and procedures for streamlining and mitigating risk associated with subpoenas, litigation holds, and government agency requests.
9. Provide advice and counsel to various internal clients to proactively address and resolve current and potential disputes.
10. Provide risk management advice to business clients while supporting business objectives.

Qualifications

4. A relentless advocate for the client (i.e., Medical Solutions), with dogged determination to accomplish difficult tasks.
5. Capable of working with a heightened sense of urgency for extended periods of time to meet tight deadlines.
6. JD from an ABA-accredited law school and an active license to practice law in Nebraska (or qualifies for in-house practice in Nebraska).
7. Superb organizational, analytical, communication, interpersonal, negotiation, drafting and writing skills.
8. Strives for balance between personal and professional time.
9. Comfortable in their own skin with strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively, work diplomatically, and foster strong relationships with individuals at all levels and throughout the entire company, including outside attorneys and clients.
10. Ability to travel as needed.
11. Familiarity with computer applications.
12. Willing to embrace and be additive to the culture of Medical Solutions.

Preferences:

1. 4-6 years of legal experience at a mid-size law firm, including substantial experience in general litigation.
2. Some familiarity with commercial collections.
3. General experience in professional negligence or employment litigation.

Pay Range

USD $110,000.00 – USD $150,000.00 /Yr.
