Job Description
Assist with basic research by setting up, conducting, and recording experiments. Perform tasks assigned by your supervisor, including:
- Cloning, expressing, and purifying de novo designed binders targeting endosomal sorting machinery.
- Chemically labeling de novo designed binders with fluorescent dyes for use as biosensors in multispectral microscopy.
- Characterizing the binding of these binders to their targets and assessing their physiological effects.
Organize and communicate findings to your supervisor, conduct literature and database searches, contribute to research reports, and maintain an efficient laboratory environment. Collaborate with your supervisor and team members, ensuring all tasks comply with good practice, policies, and legal requirements. Contribute to the smooth operation of the research group, including resource management and teamwork.
Working Relationships
You will be line managed by Dr. Emmanuel Derivery and co-supervised by Dr. Vicente Planelles Herrero, a staff scientist and biochemist. You will interact with Postdoctoral Scientists, Research Support Staff, and Students within your group and the LMB facilities.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications / Training
Essential: BSc or higher in a relevant science or engineering field.
Desirable: Relevant Master\’s or equivalent laboratory experience.
Work Experience
Essential: Basic laboratory skills, including safe chemical handling, buffer preparation, sterile techniques, and routine calculations. Experience or knowledge of protein purification is advantageous but training will be provided.
Desirable: Experience in bacterial or insect cell culture, molecular biology, protein purification, or fluorescent protein labeling.
Knowledge and Skills
Creativity and Initiative: Ability to plan experiments, analyze data, and understand lab safety. Practical equipment maintenance experience is a plus.
Independent Working: Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, seeking support when needed. Capacity to learn new methods.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication; experience in scientific presentations is desirable.
