The IT Business Systems role is to be responsible for the delivery and ownership of support to the organisation’s business applications efficiently and effectively in fulfilling business objectives. This includes support applications and software for all customers, such as operations, development, training teams and other business units. The Business Systems Support Engineer is also responsible for assisting in the design, delivery, and improvement of software applications liaising with vendors and third parties as necessary. This role will provide technical support and ensure the smooth operation, maintenance, and enhancement of business applications. Your expertise will help resolve issues, optimise system performance, usage and contribute to the overall IT strategy.
Role Responsibility
- Own applications end to end, managing their full lifecycle and working with business stakeholders to agree and deliver appropriate support, resilience, and business continuity.
- Monitor and manage reliability against agreed metrics, partnering with IT monitoring teams and stakeholders to ensure sustained performance.
- Provide subject-matter expertise on reliability practices to support organisational goals and the reliability roadmap.
- Contribute to system design, application management, capacity planning, and architecture discussions, ensuring operational requirements (availability, performance, disaster recovery) are met.
- Participate in operational support and on-call rotations for supported systems and products.
- Prioritise and manage enhancements and defect resolution.
- Lead or contribute to problem management, including blameless post-incident reviews and root cause analysis with documented insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, TMO, and delivery teams to enable high-performing systems management.
- Troubleshoot and ensure pro-active monitoring (including system health checks and housekeeping) is in place.
- Ensure applications meet the needs of internal and external customers and support overall business success.
- Accountability for ITIL-aligned service management activities, including incident, change and problem management, as well as service improvements.
The Ideal Candidate
- Knowledge of application & IT management practices and certifications (ITIL, Agile, DevOps, SRE, SDLC).
- In-depth, hands-on knowledge of and experience with enterprise and desktop applications.
- Technical exposure to Terraform, SharePoint (integration), C#, SQL, PowerShell, Azure Storage, PowerApps, CI/CD and CRM systems.
- Broad knowledge of programming languages and techniques.
- Proficiency with cloud platforms.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and debugging applications.
- Experience with monitoring & observability tools.
