We are seeking a Clinical Negligence Claims Manager to join our Claims Handling team in the Member, Cases and Claims division. As a Claims Manager, you will proactively manage a portfolio of clinical negligence claims, utilizing strategic thinking and handling files efficiently to achieve positive outcomes for members and the business. This role is suitable for qualified solicitors exploring in-house opportunities or experienced Claims Handlers seeking a new challenge.
You will manage both medical and dental claims, engage with diverse cases, provide insights to members, and collaborate with panel firms. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, building trusting relationships with internal stakeholders and external panel firms, ensuring high service standards and effective collaboration. Prioritization and proactive work across your caseload are essential. Supported by a technical development framework, you will have opportunities to develop your claims portfolio and support colleagues' growth. About the Team/Day in the life
The Claims Team manages claims from inception to resolution, including instructing external solicitor firms and involving medicolegal and dentolegal consultants for clinical input.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of claims end-to-end, appropriate to experience
- Assess facts, law, apportionment, quantum, and costs to devise case strategies
- Create and maintain accurate claims estimates
- Resolve apportionment issues effectively
- Obtain documentation and evidence from members and witnesses
- Commission expert reports and counsel input
- Draft and serve Letters of Response
- Ensure compliance with protocols
- Engage in settlement negotiations and use ADR/mediation where appropriate
- Coordinate with in-house solicitors and external litigation solicitors for strategic direction
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone with:
- Proven understanding of Clinical Negligence law and claims management
- Claims management or litigation experience in clinical negligence, personal injury, or professional negligence
- Experience handling high-volume claims independently
- Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, tact, and empathy skills
- Ability to work proactively within service standards
- Ability to challenge advice and work across multiple jurisdictions
- Comfort managing both dental and medical claims of varying complexity
