Main Purpose of the Role

To support the safe, effective and efficient delivery of outpatient and diagnostic imaging services by assisting clinical staff, preparing patients for procedures, maintaining high clinical standards and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the department.

The post holder will work across both Outpatients and Radiology, providing clinical, administrative and patient support as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care
  • Welcome patients and ensure they feel comfortable and supported throughout their visit.
  • Assist patients with mobility, changing and positioning where required.
  • Escort patients safely between reception, waiting areas, consulting rooms and imaging departments.
  • Support patients before, during and after procedures and examinations.
  • Monitor patients following procedures when requested by registered clinicians.

  • Outpatient Department Duties
  • Prepare consulting rooms before clinics.
  • Chaperone patients during examinations in line with Prime Health policy.
  • Record observations including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation and weight where trained and competent.
  • Assist clinicians with minor procedures.
  • Prepare equipment and consumables for clinics.
  • Restock clinical rooms throughout the day.
  • Ensure specimens are labelled and handled appropriately where applicable.
  • Assist with infection prevention and control measures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation as required.
  • Radiology Department Duties
  • Prepare patients for MRI, CT, Ultrasound and X-ray examinations.
  • Explain imaging pathways and what patients should expect (within competency).
  • Assist Radiographers with patient positioning and transfers.
  • Support patients requiring assistance with mobility.
  • Ensure MRI safety screening documentation is complete before escalation to Radiographers.
  • Prepare imaging rooms between patients.
  • Clean imaging equipment in accordance with infection prevention protocols.
  • Ensure consumables are stocked and available.
  • Assist with contrast preparation under the direction of registered staff where appropriate.
  • Help maintain a safe environment by following local safety procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining patient flow to minimise waiting times.
  • Department Support
  • Prepare and clean clinical areas.
  • Ensure treatment rooms remain tidy, stocked and ready for use.
  • Check stock levels and report shortages.
  • Assist with ordering and storage of clinical supplies.
  • Support waste disposal and clinical waste segregation.
  • Assist with equipment checks as delegated.
  • Report faults or safety concerns promptly.
  • Administration
  • Update patient records accurately where required.
  • Support reception and administration teams during busy periods.
  • File documentation in accordance with information governance requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Quality, Safety and Compliance
  • Work within Prime Health policies and procedures.
  • Follow CQC standards and best practice guidance.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies.
  • Participate in mandatory training.
  • Report incidents, accidents and near misses promptly. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with GDPR.
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement activities where required.

Desirable

  • Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant.
  • Experience working within healthcare, outpatient or diagnostic services.
  • Care Certificate.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Basic Life Support training. Experience taking patient observations.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control.
  • Experience within radiology or diagnostic imaging.

Additional Information

  • Complete all mandatory training before commencing clinical duties.
  • Undergo occupational health clearance where required.
