This role is accountable for assisting the Radiographers in performing imaging procedures including CT, MRI and Ultrasound examinations. In addition, this role operates with a high degree of professionalism at all times to ensure provision of a high quality, responsive and patient-focused service.
Main duties of the job:
- Support the radiographic team in delivering CT, MRI, and Ultrasound services by assisting with patient preparation, care, and positioning, including tasks such as cannulation and equipment setup under supervision.
- Ensure patient safety through proper identification checks, completion of safety questionnaires, and awareness of contraindications and risks within imaging environments.
- Provide reassurance and clear communication to patients, addressing queries, and offering additional support to vulnerable individuals.
- Act as a chaperone when needed, maintain clean and organised clinical areas, manage stock levels, and assist with administrative tasks such as data input to imaging systems and coordinating patient transport.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Radiographers in performing imaging procedures including CT, MRI and Ultrasound examinations.
- Support the Radiographic Team in undertaking a wide variety of CT, MRI and Ultrasound examinations on different systems including cannulation of CT and MRI patients.
- Carry out patient preparation prior to and patient care following the examination and ensure that the patient leaves the department satisfied with the standard of care provided.
- Ensure that patients fully understand and accurately complete the relevant safety questionnaire.
- Ensure patient identification and safety checks are completed prior to every examination.
- Have a thorough understanding of CT, MRI and Ultrasound contra-indications and safety and the hazards and safety implications involved with working in an imaging environment.
- Assist patients to get on and off the scanner and position correctly, under direct supervision of the Radiographer or Doctor responsible for the scanning session.
- Provide the Radiographer with practical support during the scanning session to include setting up the correct coils for the different examinations.
- Answer patients' queries regarding the procedure and what can be expected.
- Provide chaperone support for ultrasound sessions as and when required.
- Provide support to the Site/Operations Manager for data input to the MIP PACS system.
- Liaise with other departments regarding patient details and transport arrangements if required.
- Caring for patients' needs and attend to patients' welfare, especially those who are elderly, disabled, confused, anxious.
- Maintain clean and tidy working areas in all clinical areas.
- Undertake stock takes and order stock as necessary.

- Maintain the highest standards of both practical work and patient care at all times, including patient privacy and dignity.
- Provide support and reassurance to patients and families.
- Carry out responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, to have knowledge of supporting policies and safety and to undertake the appropriate level of training for your role.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Comply with Health and Safety legislation and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Have no personal contra-indications, e.g. pacemaker, aneurysm clips, intra-orbital foreign bodies.
- Maintain high standards of infection control.
